Hi all,

Just wanted to introduce myself real quick as I intend to be a little more active (hopefully) in the next few weeks/months.

In terms of where I am on my journey to collect chips...right at the start.

I had been looking to buy a set for a few weeks (not knowing the first thing about chips, I bought a cheap set on amzn) and realized I wanted to upgrade to something just 'nicer'. I stumbled upon PCF while I was trying to get educated on the various alternatives in front of me. I have found the PCF forum to be a great ressource to learn about collecting and the community to be super helpful. I have had a few interactions with some of you, thanks a lot for your help.

I have bought a few samples from Apache and CPC, thinking I'd start with China Clays and migrate to something better later, but realized that of all the samples I bought, I liked the Paulson better. I don't know where this journey will take me, but I think I'd like to own what I will describe as a larger 'entry-level' Paulson set (I was looking at the Lady Lucks - if you have a view on those let me know) and have a long-term project on the side to build/buy a smaller grail set. But hey, I change my mind everyday on this.

So basically, I went from "let's buy a good looking set for home" to "let's maybe buy two sets that might cost me a little fortune". Oh dear. At this point, I am just trying to figure out what I like and it has been fun to research what has been 'trading' on PCF. So thanks all for contributing.

Oh and btw, I don't play that much poker

Can't believe that user names wasn't already taken!! Awesome job there!! Please do not worry about one or 2 sets of paulsons... I promise it will turn into... ok just 3 sets... then well hell what if I want to run this breakdown... that set doesn't work at all!! Better get 4,5 and 6 just to.make sure... ohh did I mention a year ago I owned one crappy set of slugged chips... 500 chips actually. Now my significant other @FordPickup92 and I own around 30,000 chips and 15 playable sets! Good luck on your journey Alex... if you have any questions other than how to restrain yourself from spending mortgage money I would be happy to help!!

Maybe the username was too tacky But works well for me, PocketAces, AA, my initials.
Now 30k chips that's a different league - not quite sure how I am going to get away with that at home haha. But you are absolutely right. How can one stop at a number when it comes to collectibles. I guess my limits will be defined by the depth of my wallet.

1000th post. Been here close to a year so I thought I’d come back to check one of my first posts.

A year into this hobby...I’ve « met » a bunch of friendly people who I have more in common with than an interest in chips, imagined a million customs sets, bought and sold thousands of chips, « bumped » my WTB threads close to 150 times (Antique Rose $20 killing me) and dibs one of your sets or racks 25 times.

I still don’t own any Lady Lucks...went for an entry level old school Paulson set instead. Didn’t stick to my limit of two sets (currently finishing a 4th and trying to line up the 5th) nor did I stick to my initial budget. I came here to buy a set but the project I feel the most passionate about and I am the most invested in now is my collection of Cali BOH. Never thought I buy singles but I bought close to 100 of them recently and I am still telling myself I don’t collect singles, « I collect card cappers ».

But despite breaking all the rules, I’ve managed to keep things under control

I will start a dedicated thread with pictures of my collection when I receive the mother of all chip mail in a few weeks.
