I am brand new to this forum. I have looked at some threads and I have a number of questions. I am not totally familiar with the lingo and terms so please bear with me. I just discovered that I have been using paulson top hat and cane chips for over 30 years and had no clue. Questions: Are there any books on Paulson chips, what other types of chips does Paulsons make other than top hat and cane, are paulson roulette chips the same feel as THC chips. Let me start there and I look forward expertise on this subject. Hope everyone is safe is this trying time

Hello and welcome!

There is a glossary in the Resource section to help with our "chipping patois".

Paulson/GPI makes/has made all sorts of chips that you will see many examples of, based on the different molds used in the compression process. A few of the rough categories could be as follows:
"Hat and Cane" - unofficially divided into THC (which has a ring outside of the hats and canes and a smaller recess area) and RHC (which has a larger recess area)
"Roulette" - with the word ROULETTE stamped near the rim
"House Mold" - made for casino customers with their specific property name stamped near the rim; many examples of these in Las Vegas
"Paulson House Mold" - used for some of their promotional/advertising chip series, has the words "PAULSON CHIPS" stamped near the rim, e.g. CDI2005
"Suits Mold" - sets of the four suits symbols separated by a single top hat/cane, used for many fantasy series, e.g. Avalon
"Pineapple Mold" - used for Le Paulson Noir fantasy series
"Diamond Mold" - an old mold of a series of diamonds within an outer ring (similar to the THC)

I'm sure there's more.

Feel, sound, playability, and durability characteristics can change with the type of mold used, the size of the chip, if there is lead content or not, if there is an inlay (and how big it is) or if there is a hot stamp, etc. Keep your eyes and ears open, look at the stuff that's offered for sale by members and vendors alike (because there's a huge variety out there). Try and get samples before you buy. Or, in the future when physical distancing restrictions ease up, try to contact other chippers in/near your area to see and handle some representative chip sets. You'll find friendly folks all around!

Thanks for getting back to me. I hope I am doing this right. What does "bump" mean. How do I attach pictures is it the icon at the bottom of the page. This is new to me and I am learning. Hope you don't mind the questions.

Welcome, from your neighbor in Tacoma.
Thanks for your reply. Nice to know someone is close by in tacoma..I will have more questions.

Welcome

My Best Jeff
Thanks Jeff for the reply. You have been a member for quite some time. Question, do roulette chips by Paulson feel the same as THC chips and are the worth the same or less. Also most chips sold on the site seem to be brand new ones are there used chips also sold that may need cleaning. I am just starting out and trying to learn what I am doing. I wish I had Purple $500's for you.

Bump means nothing in and of itself. It's just a short post to keep the thread current and bring it up to the top of the queue.
You can attach picture files or other files using the little button with the paper clip icon that says "Attach files", just below your text field when you make a post or reply to one. If your picture files are really big, you may want to reduce the resolution before posting it.

These are pictures of my 100 pink chips THC. Any idea what they are worth would be helpfull. I am learning as I go in trying to navigate the forum. I'm a little lost being that I feel like a luddite.

Jeff, did you get my pictures of chips? How do I Pm you and how do I know if I got a reply to my posts. These may be silly questions but I don't yet know how to navigate the site. Very frustrating. thanks again for the pictures you sent.

These are amazing, by the way. Not sure what the value is, but I'd say $1/chip is the low end. The best way to find the value, if you really want to sell, is to have an auction.

They call me Tater, and this is my son Tater tot!!! Welcome!!!

Nice intro!! Always cool to see new members join and not realize they're setting on some gems!! You'll be able to find all the answers to your questions and more here!!

Mike,
I did not receive them via the Private message we have been communicating by. However they are listed in this op.
I will review them and respond to you via our PM.
Thanks Jeff

Rack of Pink THC, nice square edges, needs cleaning. Normally I'd say they would be worth $125 because of the less common colour, but because they are well-preserved hot stamped quarters they'd probably be worth a little more,, $150-175 if they are leaded Paulsons. Not sure if CJ initials are random or maybe stand for Cristy & Jones.

thanks for the reply. I would like some info on paulson roulette chips. Do they feel like THC chips and what kind of price do they bring. Any pics of roulette chips would be great. Also how do I start a new post in the forum. I'am still trying to figure things out.
