Hello ya'll. New member and first time poster. I'm a long time poker player and have been doing a lot of research lately on different poker chips. I'm 30 years old and just purchased my first home this past year. I've had the itch to play some live poker since its been since February the last time i was at a casino. I'm having my first home game in a couple weeks and im torn on which set of chips I should use. I've had these "welcome to Las Vegas" 8.5 grams chips since i was probably about 14 years old. Purchased some more of them recently in case stacks get deep at future home games.

To start though, my first few home games will be with some close friends who aren't super into playing decent sized stakes (1-2$ and up), So i purchased some of the "mint 25 cent chips", so we can just play .25/.50 or .50/1.00$. (of course with some straddles.) But i dont really like the idea of mixing 13.5 gram mint chips with my current set, so i ordered 600 additional Mint poker chips. (just 1's, 5's and 25's). I haven't received those yet im, conflicted on which set i should use for the first home game. I could always use the green 25$ "welcome to vegas" chips as .25 chips if i really want to use that chip set in smaller games.

I've been very tempted to purchase a set of custom Royal 43mm chips from Apache poker but they say they are sold out of customizing chips at the moment. I kind of want to make a uniquie custom cash set with untraditional chip colors. (example: 1$-grey, orange- 5$, blue- 25$, flags- 100$ pink- 500$). Thoughts ?

In the future, I'd really like to get my hands on a set of Cleveland Horseshoe Paulson's. That is my hometown casino where I play most of my poker before Pandemic obviously.
(Now goes by Jack Casino).

Sorry, I know this post is just a bunch of rambling about nothing really. If anyone has any thought's on any of this, please respond with any advice. I'm def a newbie to the chip game and could use advice. Thanks and look forward to collecting some cool chip sets in the future.

You should be able to easily find some cleveland horseshoes when you are ready. That was a big sale and lots of sets of the cash denominations around. I’m sure you’ve seen the chiproom sales.

That was the first set I bought when I was 14 too. I found them at Spencer’s at the mall and bought as many as I could afford. They were like mint Paulsons in comparison to the thin plastic discs or dice chips we would play with at the time.

Welcome to PCF! Thanks for sharing some pr0n, and best if luck on your journey for chips (and with your friends!)

Lots of space in that room. Can’t wait to fill it with poker tables and chips!!! Welcome!!! Let me know if I can help!

How’s it going?!
I’m a new member too - welcome to the group! Those Las Vegas chips were the second set I purchased back when I started collecting/using chips for home games. After buying lots of sample sets I quickly grew to love the real clay chips and decided to switch to the Paulson Casino de Isthmus chips. As you play more and more, and experience the look, feel, and sound of the plethora of chips out there, you will find the types right for you.

I’ve had only 6 different chip sets since 2001 and they were all different types. The only thing I never did was mix chips from different prints. If I decided on a set, I committed to it and bought all the denominations to make a cash set and tourney set. No matter what, you will always make the best decision for purchases based on your needs and preferences at the time. As you learn and grow you’ll sell/buy/trade your sets for others until you find “the one”.

Well met, and good luck with your ventures and games!

Welcome and good luck and congrats on the house!! Have fun at your home game :) get ready for an addiction.

Welcome, my all time favorite set is my Cleveland Horseshoe set, I have a matching table topper and pint glasses that complete the set. Absolutely love them.
Then again, I really like my Grand Vics too... no, my favorites are definitely the Cleveland Horseshoes... but the WTHC set is fricking awesome... no, it's the Cleveland set, but then again...

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Been a while since my first post here. Ill try give a quick update and prob will post these same pics in the home game thread. Going to try to post more and be more active so i can be active in the classified section, i need some more Paulson's now ! Lol.

I've had two home games with friends since this post. First one was supposed to be a .50/1$ game with my "mint" poker chips (clay composite metal slugged). Friends loved the chips and setup but hated the .25 cent chips. We got rid of the quarters and just made it a 1$/1$ game. Lots of booze was flowing and we played till about 4am. In for 200 out for about 700$. Friends loved the chips but I wasn't satisfied. Sold the mints not long after lol.

Game #2. I went back to my "Welcome to Las Vegas" set. Still not 100% sure what these chips are made out of, a harder high quality plastic? Reminds of the bud jones type chips casino used for a lot of tourney sets but their probably not that good of quality since they used to be very common and easy to find, i personally love the feel of them. Played a 1$/1$ NLH and used the blue 10$ chip instead of a green 25$ chip to get some bigger stacks out there. Had a great time and had another good night, in for 200$, out for about 800$. Feel a tiny bit guilty since I play a lot more poker than all my closer buddies, but they all know that and everyone had a great time.

Everyone has been asking me when the next game is and am planning another one soon. I was able to make a nice 780 chip set of JACK Cincinnati cash set. Am going to give these a oil soon and I am also re-felting my table today. Am a bit nervous bc I have never done it before and my table isn't conventionally built. Will post some after pictures of oiled Paulson's and of the re-felting of my poker table.

Sounds awesome ! Pictures ?

Welcome! Really cool that Horseshoe clevelands was your home town casino and you would be able to own a set of that in the future. I think I would feel really happy about that if I were a chipper.
