The number of "poker players" who think that Monte Carlos are high end chips is somewhat disturbing.
Travis people that know nothing about chips want heavy chips we all know this, the heavier and flashier the better. I absolutely agree that it is weird how they correlate this with "casino grade" when 98% of casinos (gestimate) do not use slugged plastic chips.
We have all herd the stories or witnessed ourselves people talk about "lighter chips are obviously cheaper" you can try to explain till your blue in the face but why? If they are not chip people and prefer to play with cheapos then let them. If they want to complain that your "expensive" chips are not as good as their buddy Charlie that got his 1000 chips off
eBay in a awesome rolling case and they are bad ass... then let them know that playing poker in your game is optional and maybe they should call Charlie up and see if he wants to play!! Lol
We love amazing clay chips around here but at the end of the day poker can be just as much fun with dice chips. It is just a prefrence to use quality and people have the right to play poker with bottle caps if they want...
I have never met any really famous professional poker players but it would be awesome to have a conversation and ask how many say $10k plus poker games they have played in using dice chips or ever lower grade. The movie "Molly's Game" they were hosting $10k plus buy in games at the beginning using dice chips, later in the movie when she opened her card room she says "ordered custom chips" they were Bluff Canyon chips so run of the mill slugged chips with a custom sticker for a 100k buy in game.
I guess the point is real clay is awesome, not necessary, Brie and I are lucky to have come into this community in a Chip collector dense area where nice chips are truly appreciated. But I will say with MC chips you will be "the game to be in" for many places.
We own a set
We have definitely upgraded and will probably sell these at some point for dirt cheap to help someone else starting out. But they do get the job done
Sad to think a massive set like that we would be lucky to get $300 for which will only buy one nice rack of THCs... the price differences in this hobby is proof that we are in fact insane!! Lol
