Hi there. Found this forum thru a poker buddy and I've been lurking for a few weeks now. Poker's become my main hobby and I've been looking to upgrade from dice chips for my home 1/2 games. Just ordered some samples of Majestics, Royals, Jack Cincinnati, Laurel Crowns, and "Monaco Casino" metal slug CCs.

Let me know if you have a good starter set you're looking to sell! Cheers

My cousin just started a game. I want him to get Royals. Lmk what you think!

Welcome! Captain underpants used to be one of my favorite childhood books!

In regards to your chips - you'll be looking for a casino used set. RHC will be most affordable. Your most recent options will be HSI and Jack's.
These will be your most comparable chips to what your familiar with in a casino using Paulson's

Checking the classifieds for such sets will likely turn up with some playable quantities. You may have to piece the set together by the rack.
Also you can post a wanted ad for what you seek

Edit: side note, keep in mind most Paulson's and some others can be relabeled. If you like the chip but not the denomination, that can often be changed

Thank you! Yes, they were my favorite pick ups from the book fair.

I was originally going to settle for CCs but all the hype on this forum has gotten me very curious about Jacks. I see TheChipRoom sale still has $5 chips in-stock. If I like the samples, I might start from there and build it up a barrel at a time from classifieds. This already feels like a very addicting hobby, haha.

My kids devour the Captain! There’s a set of books they’ve re-read multiple times.

Buy samples!

Oh. Your doing that. Okay... What else.

Know that this journey can change as you play. Many of us have found our favorite sets, and years later our opinions have changed to something completely different.

If you can afford it, buy clay or real. As much as China Clays are a wonderful value, if your opinions change and you drive deeper, you'll lose money. There are plenty of options for Paulson's in the cheaper range that hold there value and will still be a commodity if you decide to pivot.

Yes, this is definitely the main draw of the Paulson's to me. It feels like more than just "a chip" and is a collectible that holds value. Poker is my main hobby now and it seems like it would just feel cool to own a set of real "casino quality" chips.

Keep an eye on the Chip Room. He brings alot of great values to the forum with retired casino sets.

Tons of options, make sure to try all 31 flavors.

Just for the record, china clays do not have metal slugs. The Majestics and Royals are china clays, but the Monaco Casino chips are not.

Right, I figured that since they're listed as 10g.

Received my samples from Apache! The Majestics are great, but I gotta say, I absolutely love the Jacks. I would totally be happy with both, but I'm drawn to the idea of having the set of Jacks as a cool collectable. (Wasn't too high on the size of the Royals)

This is going to be a tough decision...

The Jack's were relatively affordable and pop up frequently on the classifieds and eBay. The $1 chip is a THC the rest are RHC
I think with a wanted ad you'll be able to put together a set fairly easily. Keep in mind there's primary and secondary $25, $100 and $500

All of what has been said above and keep in mind that Jim has confirmed he will be doing another @TheChipRoom sale which may be worth holding out for. What's going to be on offer hasn't been confirmed yet but a lot of speculation going round on some of the other threads and could be an interesting one.

Oooooh link? That's juicy news!
