Hi everyone,

New member here..
I’ve picked back up playing poker again and wanted to upgrade from my dice chips. Hours of YouTube and I found this forum. I didn't think that over a month of research later I would still be going down this rabbit whole but it’s deeper than I thought so I figured I’d spend some time on here learning and chatting with you guys.
Looking at ceramics possibly but they’re a little pricey for me. Might be worth it but I also considered maybe going with a cheaper set and upgrading again later. I’ve got several samples and the ceramics feel the best to me from what I’ve handled. I mainly play cash games 1/2-2/4 with friends. Any recommendations would be cool but otherwise, I’ll see you all in the threads.

Welcome. China clays, ceramics, Matsui, CPC, Paulson. So much different choice to get into. Follow the yellow brick road pick up a few friends along the way and see where you end up.

Hi JB, welcome to the matrix! Lots of great information. Take your time and figure out what really works for your game and preferences. Brpropoker has many nice ceramic stock and customizable options if that is the route you decide to take.

Thanks for some of the recommendations. Cpc aren’t justifiable for now but probably one day. Really leaning towards one of the ceramic choices off of BrProPoker but we’ll see.

If you're going BR Pro, the Tiki Kings and Dia De Los Meurtos (DDLM) tend to be crowd favourites.

I have the Valentino's, but I think there's much better out there if trying to replicate a clay casino chips (Valentino's based off The Venetian). The Aria cards mold are good in this area

Thanks. Not familiar with the aria card mold yet but I’ll look into it.
Any opinions as to whether a $2 chip would be worth it to have or just stick with .50s, 1s, 5s and 20s? Buy ins where I play are usually $60-$100. 8 people on average

Welcome! Where in Texas? There may be some members here who would be willing to let you check out different options.

No need for $2 chip ... it just makes counting bets and settling up at the end of the evening that much more difficult. They are fun to get in play on occasion if they're part of a larger casino set, but that's the exception not the norm.

I mainly play cash games 1/2-2/4 with friends.
I will say $100 buy-in for a 2/4 game seems pretty low. I'm guessing a limp-fest?

What actually happens is we start out .50/1 and as the night goes on the blinds go up to 1/2 then 2/4 to make the game go by faster. But I agree $100 for 2/4 is way too low. I play with a bunch of rookies and am always the most aggressive player at the table so you could say limp fest. Lol
Sometimes I consider trying to help them get better but then I’ll just make the game harder on myself. You guys ever try and make your friends better? The most I’ll ever do to help is make a comment about something they always do that is extremely obvious.

Was my question too - Texas is big. :)
San Antonio.

I'm in San Antonio as well.

A cashgame ends when you don’t wanna play anymore. People don’t have to go broke tourney style. Or what do you mean by ”make the game go faster”?

Yeah that's really odd. Just the term of 'blinds going up' is a tournament thing, not a cash game thing.

This would only make sense if you're running a game of pros who want the night to get progressively more high stakes for some reason, but a pro would understand variance and want the stakes to stay the same all night (otherwise they might win when stakes low, and lose when stakes high).

But you say you're playing with rookies in a limpfest...

I know what you’re saying. Unfortunately I don’t make the rules bc I don’t host. I’ll give an example. The way a friend likes to do it is cut off rebuys after about 3-4 hours of playing. And since game usually doesn’t start early, it’s relatively late by that time and so in order for the game to be over faster, they like to raise the blinds even if it means getting bullied until there is a winner.

I'm in San Antonio as well.
Very interesting. What area?

I’m always the most serious player there (about performance and understanding the game) and I have no where else to play with friends so I just go with it since I do very well there given there’s not much in the way of competition.

Welcome to PCF

That is not a Cash Game by any standard, I tot Texas are huge on Poker and this is not the typical game that I expecting to see

Everyone plays different I guess. That’s the way he likes to do it. I’m all for unlimited rebuys and starting with a little higher blinds and not raising them but he is not. Is what it is unless I end up hosting. Which is partly why I need to get an upgraded set of chips and my own table.

Ahh I getchya. Was thinking you were hosting this game.

It certainly sounds like they're running a tournament (increasing blinds, cutting off cebuys, forcing a winner) but with cash chips. The host obviously doesn't realise that you don't win in a cash game by having ALL the chips, just more than you started with. And you set an end time, if someone wants to 'rebuy' 10 mins before that, they will have 10mins of play and finish with whatever's in front of them.

Sounds like you need to definitely start you're own game, because that is very odd! Good luck getting some nice chips and getting a game going! :)
