Hey All!
Just joined yesterday after watching a couple of YT videos from Christopher M. I live in South Lake Union and have played the occasional home game over the years. Late last year I played a couple games with friends where I did really well against beginner players but got crushed by a new guy who was more skilled. I decided to learn some basic poker strategy, went down the rabbit hole and here I am.

I ended up hosting a couple of tournaments with a close group of friends over the last two months that have been a huge hit. I've been reading lots of threads over the last two days that have been super helpful! Currently working on my house rules since we've had a few disagreements on chipping up and straddling.

For my birthday on I bought a "nicer" chip set from Amazon before I knew better. Looking forward to eventually upgrading to a proper set, but will probably order chip samples until I find a set I can pull the trigger on. Looking forward to being here and learning from all of you!

Glad you found your way here. Nice looking table and sometimes it is best to try out an inferior product before making any wallet altering decisions.

PS: Love the PNW

Welcome to the forum! Definitely start with samples and if you have any questions feel free to ask any questions or try using the search function for existing threads on the topic!

Welcome! We have a great contingent of Seattle area and PNW chippers. Definitely check out samples before you get too far down any one path.

Thank you! The table is also a cheaper foldable one from Amazon. But it definitely makes poker night just that much better. I remember purchasing these things and thinking $400 for a table and chip set was an insane amount of money lol Now that I've read up on how much some of the chip sets can go for, I feel like I paid nothing at all

Thank you! I've spent most of the day yesterday browsing various threads, but mostly tournament related as I'm working on a set of house rules for my tourney on Friday. Do you have any recommendations for initial chip samples to purchase?

That's awesome! I'm excited! I'm still learning and most of my friends are casual players, so it's great to know there are people I can get connected to that know more than me. Any chip samples you think I should check out in particular?

I would say your best bet is to go to Apache and order a few of their sample sets - https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product-category/poker-chip-samples/

Grab a little bit of everything - china clays, ceramics, paulsons, high end plastics. It can be hard to compare the different types of chips if you're just looking at one or two of each, so I'd recommend aiming for shuffle stack's worth (10) of each chip type. The sound, feel, weight, and stability are easier to judge with a larger quantity.

If you're willing to head to one of the local card rooms or casinos, it should be easy enough to get some from the cage/cashier, and as a bonus you can always return them when you're done!

Yes - I would look for sales on the classifieds with miscellaneous samples, there's also a traveling loaner sample set available, just pay shipping. You can also try vendors as mentioned above, they usually offer various brands of samples

If I was to pick three to order, do you have any recommendations?

I actually signed up for that loaner sample! Such a great idea! And I never thought of going to casino and grabbing some chips. That's so smart!
Another PNW. Woo.
Heck yeah! Seems like there's a pretty good group here! Can't wait to get plugged in!
