Hi everyone. Long time poker player here but getting ready to start hosting my own regular games as soon as the weather warms up.
I'm looking to get a 1000 chip set but don't want to break the bank to do it. I'm considering Black Diamond 14g.
200 each of the T25, T100, T500, T1000, and T5000.
I thought discountcasinogear.com had a pretty good price on them plus an acrylic case for $200.
What are your opinions or recommendations?

I hate 14g chips. Way too heavy IMO. Your hands will actually get tired and start to cramp up.

There are definitely sets of chips here that can be had for about $200 that are far superior. Cards mold tournament Aria chips have started showing up in the wanted ads.

I would definitely check out Apache Poker for lots of good options that won't break the bank.

Edit: and welcome! Just noticed you were a new member.

Take your time, get feedback, try to get samples. But honestly, I don't want to burst your bubble on the 14g, but they were one of my first chips and my only set I regretted getting.

Yep, with @BearMetal on this one. It sounds picky at 4-5g extra per chip, but that's still 50% on top of what they should be and not very comfortable chips to handle. Still within your budget there are lighter budget chips, as well as the cards mold ceramic sets.

Also while you're here, worth researching tournament chip breakdowns. 200 of each is not the way to go, you don't need as many of the highest denominations and 200 of each would leave many chips unused - meaning with the right breakdown, you can buy more of the right chips allowing you to have more players OR less total chips to accommodate the players you're planning for already and save money :)

Actually my breakdown is
8 T25
8 T100
6 T500
6 T1000
2 T5000

You're right, I don't NEED 200 of each. But I want them for coverage in case I decide to increase the starting amount and/or add more tables. I probably only need 100 T1000 and 50 T5000. But I upped them to even numbers because I don't need smaller denominations to round out 1000 chips.

8,8,4,7,2 is a more efficient breakdown. You can then reduce your T500's by 100 chips and re-invest them in other denoms.
Yeah. I could. The main reason I kept it 8,8,6,6,2 is because we have $20 buy-ins and that breakdown gives everyone 20k in chips.
Even money keeps people from complaining.

Thanks man I appreciate your thoughts.
I did look into Apache Poker actually and I love their sets. The problem is for almost every set they have the denominations I need are always all sold out.
