Matsui spacers are in the store for purchase!

And I made a video about them, which posted this morning. Subscribe to my channel and you can be the first to see my new stuff!

A couple notes:
  • I just learned about the Apache copies of the Matsui racks, and I've ordered one for testing. I don't know for sure yet if the side spacers will fit those racks or not, but I think they will. If not, I'll try to tweak the design so that it can work with either rack.
  • The bottom trays will definitely not fit the Apache racks because they have extra ribs there. I can see about making a version of those for the Apace racks (or modify them to fit either rack if I can) if there is demand.
  • When the lid is on the Matsui rack, there is only a 3mm gap between the top and bottom, so the connectors on these side spacers have to be very thin compared to my Universal Rack Spacers. Treat them gently or they could break.
  • The photos in the store show the final design. I made one change after I shot the video. I made the center of the spacer solid so that I had a place to print the thickness of the spacer on the back just like my other spacers. This makes it easier to identify them if you have spacers in different sizes.
  • The side spacers work with any chip diameter (43mm, 39mm, etc.). Check the notes in my store description to figure out the thickness you need to match the thickness of your chips, or order a sample set and test fit them directly.
The bottom trays are on sale for Black Friday!

Thanks!
Ben

Look great. I have the apache sets so please post how they fit once your test rack arrives. The racks are nice and fit 21 DDLM ceramics snug and 20 Dunes loose but not enough for 21 chips.

Confirmed: the side spacers fit the Apache racks as designed! However, the Apache racks are about 1.3mm wider, so you will need a thicker spacer for them.

I could modify the bottom trays to fit around the extra ribs in the bottom of the Apache racks. Is anyone interested in that?

I will order a sample set to check the fit. Right now my ceramics snugly fit a complete 21 chips in 3 or 4 of the barrels of a rack. Obviously variance in the chips exists.

how do these ship? They look just a bit too long to fit into a SFRB, but i expect 40 or 50 would easily go in a Medium?

They actually fit well in an SFRB. I usually ship that inside a PFRE for more protection. If you order more than will fit in that, my next go-to box is a Regional Rate A which ships for $9 to $12 most places.

Great idea! When I get my ceramics, I’ll likely be getting some of these for my Apache racks. Hopefully, you’ll have the bottom trays figured out by then.

Ben was kind enough to send me a sample of the new Matsui rack "trays" and so I thought I'd provide some feedback.

Most of us that own Matsui racks do so because you can fit both 39mm and 43mm chips - in the same rack, at the same time. To support the larger chips, the bigger compartments mean that the 39mm chips have a lot of lateral movement. It is unlikely this movement will do any damage to the chips, but you can never be too careful.

These new trays fit (very) snugly in each compartment stopping the lateral movement and also elevating each 39mm barrel to just beneath the rack lid. It is even safe to turn the rack upside-down.

The Matsui spacers still work with these trays and you could even colour-match the trays with your chips - OCD anyone?!

In summary, I think that these are fantastic if you're transporting chips around for games. However, if the chips only move from a shelf to the table then I don't think they're warranted (they'd still look cool though!). I will certainly be ordering some for transporting chips around in combination with all the Matsui spacers I already have.

Keep up the great work Ben :)

I received a large batch of these Matsui spacers as I store/transport my chips primarily in these racks. They work great to keep the chips nice and snug and the different sizes ensure a good fit regardless of wear (I've event discovered a slight difference in mint hotstamp vs mint inlay Paulsons, that the different sizes help account for).

These look fantastic, once you have the the Apache spacers worked out, I’ll order both spacers & trays for my Matsui & Apache racks. Will be great to colour match chips.Yes I have mild OCD.;) Hopefully there is enough interest in Apache style trays, I’m definitely keen.

I just added bottom trays for Apache racks to my store. Here are some quick shots (I'll take some better ones with my makeshift lightbox later).

Note that these do NOT fit in the Matsui racks, so if you have both types of racks they are not interchangeable. The Apache racks are a bit wider and a hair taller than the Matsuis. I tweaked these to fit the Apaches really well, and they no longer fit the Matsuis.

Maybe I’m blind ... but could you provide a link to these Apache rack trays?

Can’t decide if I want to match the colors to my chips, or get all the same color. Hmmmmm.

Question ... is a clear plastic a purchasing option for you in the future? If not, can you post pics of the white and grey trays in the Apache racks?

I ordered some clear filament, but it will take a week to ship. Here are some shots of white and grey:

I posted these pics in the mail PrOn thread, but they deserve to be here, as well, as a testimonial. These trays are fantastic for anyone who doesn’t like to see their 39mm chips rolling around in Matsui or Apache clone racks. I decided to go with colors that match the chips. I think they look great. They’ll look even better once I get around to cleaning the chips. They are filthy.

New option in the store: Clear (Hollow) bottom trays for both Apache and Matsui racks.

I think these look pretty cool. They aren't totally clear, but you can at least see the color of the chips through them. From the side, they almost disappear because they are hollow. This does make them weaker than the regular solid trays though, and they are more flexible, so it is a tradeoff. Here are some shots:

20210424_113123(1).jpg
20210424_113243(1).jpg

20210424_113838(1).jpg
20210424_113856(1).jpg

It took a while to get these perfected. At first I tried printing them solid on the ends but without infill inside. That made them stronger and still pretty transparent, but from the sides they were ugly:

20210424_114150.jpg

I tried taking the same file as the solid trays and printing them hollow, but they were very bendy and I wasn't sure if they would warp over time:

20210424_114231.jpg

So I tweaked the design a little bit for the Apache spacers so that cutout around the fins extends up farther and touches the curve for more strength, and I added reinforcement to the Matsui version too. The end result is still a little flexible, but much better than before.

20210424_114549.jpg

Order these just like the other trays and pick Clear (hollow) for the color option.
