New CPC Design (Name TBD) (1 Viewer)

I have accumulated enough Paulsons from closed casinos that I am now after a truly custom set with shaped inlays and my personal design. It will be the pinnacle of chipping for me to have a personal set that I am in love with. I have just started to think about the name and theme, so nothing on that front yet. But I have been thinking over the chip colors and spots for about a week, and this is what I have some up with after multiple iterations. Wanted to run it by the most discerning eyes in poker and have you all pick it apart!

I love bright colors and was inspired to do bright bases by the Casa Mango chips, my favorite CPC set. Huge tip of the cap to @Eloe2000 on his excellent design.

They will have denominations on them, I am going to have 25c, $1, $5, $10, $25, and $100 chips. I think I have a decent spot progression, the only exception is the frac which is more intricate than the $1. I am already considering turning the frac into a watermelon and just using DayGlo Green on something like a 212 or 214 to save some money and keep the progression traditional.

Get a current colour sample. Dayglo saturn isnt a bright as it looks on screen. It has a green tinge to it and looks kind of like plastic.

Id also avoid having repeating spot colour especially for adjoinging denoms but that a preference.

Have you considered making the yellow chip a $20? From what Im lead to beleive a $20 chip makes more sense for games involving fracs as its easier for buyins and cashouts. $25 is more commonly used when stakes are a little bigger when people generally buyin for multiples of $100 bills.

@davislane Great info, I went and looked at some actual photos of DG Saturn and you are spot on. I don't have a color sample, just a Chesterfield Club sample set. I am mostly looking at photos of in hand chips which seem to show the problems with certain colors. DG Arc Yellow came out great on the Casa Mangos, much brighter than it appears on my computer screen, so no reservations about switching to that for the $10. Moved the light blue spot on the $25 to the $5 so I wouldn't have two white spotted chips, and dumped DG Saturn from the whole set.

Our group usually buys in for 40-60 each and we play 0.25/0.50 or 0.50/1.00, so I figured with a $10 chip it would actually see some good action since everyone would start with one or two of them. The $25 and $100 is really just to have a rack or two of each because I like MOAR chips.

With the $1 being DG Peacock, is is too much blue to have the spots on the fiver be Burple and Light Blue?

I think CPC is a fantastic company offering a fantastic service/product, and I've been in the process (years, don't ask lol) of trying to build at least one set!

That said, once you get samples, and play around with them for a long time, you'll have a more nuanced view of the colors/molds.

For me the biggest disappointment in the lineup is Dayglo Saturn. The lack of brightness isn't such a problem, but for some reason, this color looks really plasticky/cheap. Which is too bad, because Lime Green is one of my favorite Paulson colors, and I so wanted Dayglo Saturn to be that. Before I got samples, I had Dayglo Saturn all over my chip designs, but now it's verboten lol.

A lot of the other dayglo colors are great, however, esp Tiger, Peacock, Peach and Arc Yellow.

Not a big fan of white $1 but I am liking the blue and purple on the $5 less and less. Here is a white $1 option

No problem!

What do you think about using Peacock for the edgespots on the $1 instead of Retro Lavendar? The white/lavendar combo is nice in a vacuum, but in the context of your set I think you need some more blue, and white/peacock is a great combo.

Custom CPC is end-game and is what it's all about! Here are a few thoughts from someone who messed up their first two custom sets and nailed their last two...

If you like bright colors, retro red may be darker than mandarin, but at the same time it really pops. Both dayglo yellow and Saturn have green tinge to them. I'm in the minority as I prefer canary to both of them.

As mentioned, get color samples to see for yourself, and samples of molds, including enough to shuffle of the molds you like visually, as they all have a different feel.

Put some serious thought into how much money you usually see on your table, how many different denominations/colors you want to see, and design your set to accommodate that. For example, if budget isn't a concern and your stakes are low enough, even though a $10 isn't optimal, you'll actually see it in play as opposed to a $100. Also, instead of a hundo that will sit in a rack, consider a barrel of showem/member/something else chips?

Take your time and make sure your colors, spots and mold all work with your personal theme.

How about mixing it with DG Peach so it doesn't look so plain? It's a bit over the top for a $1 chip but I need the extra color to get over the white!

@SteveEH I am down with Retro Red, I didn't even have a good reason for picking Mandarin anyway. I think canary will work on the DG green chip especially if it has less of a green tinge and is more truly yellow. I will order fewer $100 chips and have some sort of wildcard chip like you said, that can be the new blurple one.

Already I feel like this set is much better, you all have been a lot of help!

Personally, I wouldn’t spend much time on colors/spots until you have the concept/theme clearly in your head. That will really dictate some color choices. A unique theme should be the focus first.

I would either do

25c / $1 / $5 / $10 / $25 / $100 or
25c / $1 / $5 / $10 $20 / $25 / $100

I'd keep playing around. Find a good theme and use that to influence the colours. Give it a few months of tinkering. Or more.

It's really easy to put together a set you think you like. When in reality, a month later it may lose its lustre. Keep in mind it'll take months after you order it to receive them. Months of looking at the design that you may start to want to change things.

Took me 6 months so far to start honing in on a set I feel like I can start getting feedback for. I'm expecting to spent about 12-18 months designing a set before I even consider placing an order.

I like this lineup the best by far. That’s a killer $1. But I wouldn’t repeat the spot pattern on the $1 and $25.

Also, Mandarin Red is a slightly darker color than people think. Especially paired with darker blues (most of the blues are dark). This is fine but not if you are going for a bright set. I would maybe swap the Blurple for Imperial Blue on the $5.

Also, as other have said you 100% need a color sample set.

@MichaelBubly @Eriks @slisk250 Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback, I will definitely take that into consideration and let things smolder for a few months before putting any orders in. Especially what was said about coming back to look at the chips after a break.

@Eloe2000 Thanks for stopping by!! Now hearing it for the third time I'm definitely going to order a color sample set tonight. Conveniently they come on the A-mold so I'll be able to make sure I like the feel of them as well. I've made the spot and color switches and added inlay shape to the $25 as well, it really is a cool chip now. Can't wait to be 100% confident with samples in my hand soon!!
