Hey everyone!

Bear with me, I tend to be more of a lurker so creating threads is a bit atypical for me. PCF is acting like a naggy mother and asking me to socialize so... here I am.

I joined the community primarily because I love poker and love having better chips than my friends. I only started playing poker "seriously" about a year ago, so my collection is still fairly lacking.

I want to be leveraging the classifieds section ASAP, so I wanted to ask you guys how to "pad" my posts without really padding them. As in, what type of contributions can I make to the forum that aren't just useless posts to meet the minimum requirements?

Excited to be here,
CARP

Welcome! There’s lots of posts of people asking for opinions, jump into the fray. Lots of posts showing off sets, give some complements. Basically just get involved!

Hello and welcome! What chips are you interested in. If you answer, you get another post!

Start a thread showing all your chips. Add a pic to the Home Game Pics and/or Show Your Live Stacks threads. Welcome a fellow noob. Look at threads and share your opinion. Start a thread asking about a question you have—chips, tables, strategy, off-topic, etc.

You’ll have 2500 posts in no time! :D

Welcome to PCF!

Hello & welcome! And, just so you know, after you get enough posts to be able to place a classified then you'll realize that your poker hand increases as you "Level Up". What do I mean by "Level Up"? Well, look under everyones name and you'll see they have a "Hand Ranking"; like for instance @Beakertwang shows that he has a FullHouse, I have a pair. So, you "Level Up" by participating -- FYI - you get a pair at 100 messages, Two Pair at 300, I believe -- beyond that I don't know. So, like everyone is saying, get involved and if you're like me (A techie total Introvert, it can be tough, but, it's what you have to do -- listen to your nagging Mother) and everyone on here is great!! So, again, welcome!!!

Welcome! As everyone stayed get involved! I’m fairly new, but a lot of helpful people. May I feel sorry for your picker book!

Don't be shy. All of us were newbies at one time, and we don't bite. ;)

What chips do you have, And what are you thinking of buying? Which cards do you use? What kind of table do you play on? Are you planning to upgrade anything? How do you store your chips? Got pics? We love pics.

Drink holders or side tables?
Racetrack or full playing surface?
Poker or bridge size?
Is a hot dog a sandwich? :ROFLMAO:

Hello and welcome to the group, as others have already said don't be shy just have a lurk about and see what takes yer fancy!

Welcome.

Everyone in this thread has given good ideas. I particularly like to read the home game threads and the design threads, and for funsies the eBay thread. Those are pretty good conversations to start with.

I am sorry about what is about to happen to your wallet. Welcome aboard.

Thanks Tommy, I was wondering about that.

The most pressing question, of course, is...

Denominated or non-denominated? :p

Isn't that horse dead?

So, tell us, if you don't mind, what does CARP stand for? Is it one of these:

Current Actively Retired Person
Career Automobile Racing Passenger
Compulsively Accepting Random Pamphlets
Coloring Artsy Rock Posters
Captured Anarchist Roasting Pigs
Capital Amortization Retirement Planner
Constantly Amassing Rhetorical Proposals
Cold Aggravated Rummage Pirate

I have more

Camouflaged American Rasta Prince
Casual Arsonist Removing Paintings
Cartoonist Amusingly Recreating Profanity
Creating Amusing Republican Propaganda – It’s a joke, not a political statement
Canadian Aristocrat Resisting Popcorn

Okay, I'm done

Hey everyone!

Shocked at the sheer number of responses! I'm sorry I went off the radar right after posting; again, I'm not too good at foruming. I assumed the forum would send me an email if I got a reply... I'm "watching" the thread, anything else I can do?

I just bought my first set of denominated chips for 25c/50c home games. The last of them arrived this week. I wasn't quite sure what to get so I started with ApachePokerChip's imitation chips from Casino Royale. At 16c a chip I figured I could get a bunch of them, hate them, and not hurt too much.

My Review (so far, haven't done any playing):
I bought the chipco racks as the site said these racks fit the chips best. They fit, but suuuuper snugly. It feels like rack is meant to hold 19 chips per row and the 20th is being forced. The chips look a dusty, so maybe a cleaning would help them fit better? Does that ever help?
The chips themselves look dusty, don't know if that's part of the aesthetic or how they will look after a cleaning. What's a good method to clean chips? I'll come back with reports on the result of a good deep cleaning.
Also, the chips are heavy. I'm sure with a bit of practice I'll be shuffling them, but MAN is it tough right now. I have an old non-denominated set of WPT chips lying around and those are my main frame of reference, they shuffle spectacularly.

Oh, and to answer some questions posted in the thread:

What chips do you have, And what are you thinking of buying? Which cards do you use? What kind of table do you play on? Are you planning to upgrade anything? How do you store your chips? Got pics? We love pics.

Drink holders or side tables?
Racetrack or full playing surface?
Poker or bridge size?

Casino Royale
Don't Know Yet
Copags. Recently got the 4-color deck and that's been fun.
Shitty $100 wood 8-handed table.
EVERYTHING.
Racks.
No pics yet. Might come by later tonight with pics.

Side tables for SURE. I have long-ass arms and I just feel so clumsy with a drink in a holder. Do I put my arm around it? Towards my body? Nobody knows.
Depends on the crowd. I think a full surface looks much better but a racetrack works better for a drunker, less-attentive crowd.
... Decks? Poker...
No.

So, tell us, if you don't mind, what does CARP stand for?

I dig the thought of a "Career Automobile Racing Passenger". Seems pretty easy. Unfortunately, none of your guesses were correct (Sorry!)
It stands for two things: the first is my initials and the second is the fact that I'm a GIANT FISH.

Is this kosher by the way? Making two posts in a row on a thread? I wasn't trying to fluff up, the two posts just had very different feels.

Oh wow it turned them into one post! Cool!

I'm gonna be honest, I'm posting this bit to see if the forum merges them again. Might as well make use of the space... I've noticed most people say where they live in their intros. I'll do that! I live in Acton, MA, USA. If anyone's interested, I can put together home games at my place. Anything from 25c/25c to 1/2. Maybe some 2/5 but after some rather careless bankroll management in the last months we might have to wait on that one.
