I'm new to chipping and originally was looking at tiki kings. After going back and forth i decided to order Bluff Canyon Claysmiths.

I cant get over all of the excess material on the edges and can't help but to compare them to the smooth tiki king samples I have. I should never started watching hobbyphilic on youtube.

Needless to say. I haven't even played with them yet and want to sell them .
I just ordered several CC sample sets. Pharoahs, majestics, royals. I'm hoping these will be pleasing enough for me. I'm not able to post on classified yet but would be interested in a used set of CC mostly 1s, 5s, maybe 10s few 25s 100s.

I dont know why I am so obsessed with poker chips all of he sudden. Have been playing for 20 years but all of the sudden have the urge to collect/host games.
Once my order of samples comes in, that will put me at around 10 sample sets.

Any ideas or input is appreciated. I posted in the poker table section and was inspired to build my own table. Thank you for that recommendation. It cost about $400 with all the supplies. Just have to attach folding legs.

Welcome! You have already hit everyone's first piece of advice here, which is to get samples of what you're interested in. However, I would just say maybe slow down a little if you are not in a rush to acquire another set right now since you just got one, as this can potentially save you quite a lot in the long run. There are a bunch of other chip options out there that you may not even know exist yet, so make good use of the search function and browsing. People are always happy to answer questions as well.

Good luck!

Nice table. Could you post some pictures of the Bluff Canyon chips? How do they handle: decent or way too slick to stack?
Oh, and one thing about hobbyphilic on YouTube: he doesn't sufficiently review how chips handle, it's mostly looks with him. He will riffle a stack so you can hear what chips sound like. Really? Sound is not important... FEEL is important. A video of him placing chips in stacks and flicking them with a finger to see if they just slide right over would be more helpful.

I will post a picture when I get home. They actually handle pretty well, they're not too slick at all. I was very surprised at how few spinners there are (after reading reciews ) and overall they are pretty flat.

Im not super experienced in chipping but I've handled my fair share of ceramic chips and have also spent alot of time in casino (though I don't own any Paulsons).

The imperfections on edges are whats bothering me. I really like the colors and edgemarks.....pics to follow...

On a side note, does anyone know if apache does semi custom chips? If I wanted to order a set of royals could I change out an inlay sticker to create a $10 chip?

You can clean those up with some 000steel wool. They look good, and your players will like them, unless you are hosting a meetup

This is actually very true, your tastes are going to refine and you will probably end up spending more money on poker chips then you ever would’ve thought possible. But, your players are going to love the cheapest chips you own in your collection the most, it’s just the way life goes for a chipper. ;)

And for what it’s worth, when I was first starting and looking at all the chips I thought I could "afford", I absolutely loved the Bluff Canyon chips. I love the spots, I love the colors, and I love the design on the label, they are very pretty chips when you don’t know much. And even then, they aren’t that bad and they crap all over dice chips any day.

You can order blank Royals here - https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/royal-blank-poker-chips/

Gear https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/gear.338/ is a vendor here that will print labels for you.

Examples of custom labeled Royals here - https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/the-official-royals-pron-thread.45292/

Here are some pics. They are flat enough to stack 100 high no problem. Feel is good and the heavier 13.5 or 14g is not an issue for me. Chip thickness seems very consistent as well.

The faces of these chips are fine. Inlay stickers set nicely...I don't foresee having an issue with them ever falling off. Again the edges and all the extra flashing is what turns me off.

A friend of mine has the Bluff Canyon's and doesn't have those issues. I just don't like them because of the weight and feel. China clays are so much better in my opinion. I think the Pharaoh's are the moist durable of the CC's. I didn't like the Majestic's because of the dark labels.

I had a set of bluffs. I used the rough side of a dish sponge to sand of the flash.

Though I found the 12 stripe to have a lot more spinners than the poker knight version, which I still use as my tourney set.

If you are willing to put in a bit of work in the classifieds, you can probably find people willing to sell their CPS chips (CC WSOP Paulson clones). They are cheaper than Royals.

Thanks for taking the time to post pics. Bluff Canyons aren't perfect but for a budget chip they don't seem the worst.

I pretty much followed the same pattern. Including building a poker table.

Welcome.

Thank you. It was nice to get some encouragement from the forum to support building my first table (first anything really.) Thank you all.

I dont know if I will ever end up playing with these more than a few times, as I just ordered royals and will await my custom labels.

welcome, the table looks great.

save yourself a lot of time and heartache and just yourself some compression molded chips, paulson, cpc, or BCC

AFAIK Gear can't do Royal labels. ABC has the artwork available to do any custom denominations or specialty labels (bounty, show 'em, etc) with the Royal logo and font.

I have Nexgen lucky bee's that have similar excess material on the edges....once the chips are played and shuffled most of this extra material disappears. I am too lazy to sand or consider oiling chips. I just put them into play....the extra material should be gone after 3-4 game nights.
