So, I got rear-ended on the Baltimore beltway on Sunday (I'm fine other than some soreness) and there is a very good chance that my car is totaled. I had a Ford Fusion, and I liked it, but I was wondering if you all had any other suggestions for me to look at. I probably don't want a truck or SUV, but anything else is on the table. What do you all recommend?

Real sorry to hear about your accident.. .glad you're ok

I'm no car guy, but you need to think about what you're looking for in a car.... high gas mileage? lots of frills and heated/cooled leather seats? room for 6 passengers? convertible?
hybrid?

Start with questions like these.... if only you knew someone connected with a reputable car dealer who could help ;)

I hear these are reliable.

But you wouldn't catch me dead in one... Can't speak to the comfort.

Mainly I just want it to be reliable and comfortable.

Comfortable is going to be a personal thing. I found my '03 Corolla quite comfortable, but the Mercedes C class from the same year completely uncomfortable.

Get samples. Links was spot on.

(Go sit in cars)

I found Lexus SUVs uncomfortable, but Acura quite comfortable. The opposite in sedans. I've yet to find a comfortable Subaru, despite the fact that I think they'd be a good choice for me in NH.

Do some online research on features you want and reliability ratings, then go drive the ones that seem appealing.

just hit up autotrader with your parameters, color, mileage, car type. thats probably your best bet no joking aside

This is fine when you have figured out what you want, but you gotta drive cars to figure out what you want.

My last car I was planning a Lexus sedan. Bought an Acura SUV. Driving them was key.

I don't have a lot of helpful advice, but I've learned 2 things from the last car I bought.

1. Don't buy the first car you test drive without looking at/driving anything else.

2. Make sure when you put the sun visor down it doesn't hit your rear view mirror. I would have never thought about this in my life, but once I had already bought the car I discovered this happens and it's bothered me every day since then.

Based on personal preference I really like the Subaru Impreza and Mazda 3 hatchbacks, and one of those is likely to be my next car. That's just bias though really.

Good luck!

I know you said you probably don't want an SUV or a truck, but I'd go test drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee. My wife is in love with hers, probably more than she is in love with me, but that's fine. It's a safe and reliable car. That's my two cents.

i used to have a Subaru legacy sedan and it was fantastic. I would still have it but it was totaled when I was rear ended on I-5. My wife has an Subaru impreza hatchback but it just is a little too small for my liking. Hatchback is nice though.

I now drive a 2014 Ford Taurus AWD. It is really comfortable but fuel mileage is not very good. If I were to do it again I think I would choose a Subaru Legacy again. They are very reasonable for price and looks sharp as well. Get leather. Just my .02

Yeah. There are lot of those in the HOV commuter lanes around Baltimore. People buy them for the gas mileage.
20+ mpg empty. Not bad for something that'll pull your stock trailer too.

But not 20+ mpg of you like to let the hemi eat
