Hello, I'm a new member after a 12-15 year absence. Been browsing the threads and am amazed at all the info here. At one time I built my own tables and had something like 1700 Desert Sands chips. The chips are long gone, but, I still have most of the makings of a table, and, am getting the itch to go back down this rabbit hole!

I'm located in Louisville, KY. Looking forward to meeting some folks on here.

I've got tons of questions, but, I'm trying to read everything I can on here first. I guess my main question would be "what's the best clay chip for customizing a cash game set?" I like the look of the Claysmith "milano" chips, that's kind of what I'm looking for. However, I'd like to get something with an inlay of my own design, which chip makers are doing that? I prefer a 10g chip. Any info anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

I'm a researcher, I'll look, research and study on it considerably before I make the jump. I don't have an unlimited budget, but, am willing to pay for a quality custom cash game set.

These are conflicting statements….sort of.

I think I ended up spending about .35-.40 per chip on the Desert Sands I bought years ago. I'm ready to step up a bit, not that there was anything wrong with the DS, aside from the slightly fuzzy graphics. I guess I'm thinking I'd like to be in at around 1k to 1500 for a cash game set. 10 players. Mostly a .25/.50 game, sometimes $1/$2

600-800 cash chips are needed for most single-table 25c/50c sets that also spread 1/2, so you're looking at up to roughly $2/chip as within your budget.

Custom ceramics from BRPro, custom 43mm ceramic hybrids from Sun-Fly, some used casino Paulson chip sets, and a few stock design CPC clays will all work nicely and not break the bank. Both customized ceramic options are around $1/chip (stock designs are less expensive), while both clay chip options listed will be about twice that. All are top quality chips weighing roughly 10g, but I advise that you get samples before you decide.

Not knowing how big your game plays, I'd recommend the following 800-chip set:

100 x 25c
200 x $1
300 x $5
120 x $20 (or $25)
80 x $100

The Milano chips are inexpensive mostly-plastic injection-molded chips of dubious quality made in China (referred to as china clays). There are better options available at that price point, imo.

Welcome back! The rabbit hole has gotten deeper -- and more expensive, at the top end -- during your absence.

No doubt it has, but, I'm liking much of what I'm seeing. My first thought was just get the basic .25/$1/$5 starter pack, but, I think of rather spend a bit more and get what I need instead of having to reorder. I don't want to run into color mismatches, etc, on a reorder.

For safety sake, I'll probably end up with a few cash sets so I can rotate. Not sure I without ever have an issue, but, if rather pay it safe just in case.

Hi and welcome !

"what's the best clay chip for customizing a cash game set?"

CPC if you want to have full control on your clay set.

You can also buy Paulson chips and relabel them but you'd be stuck with the colors and spot patterns available. Also, in the end, it'll be more expensive than building your own set of CPC.

With CPC, you can stay within a controlled budget if you :
- pick the cheap mold
- stay level 1 (and even use solid for your fracs)
- go with hotstamp (same stamp - ex with your logo - on one face of all the chips and the denom on the other side)
- use non dayglo colors as base color for your chips

By following these rules, you should stay around $2 each on average.

But….just saying…hear me out.

This is PCF….you’ve made it this far.

Double (triple?) your budget now, so you don’t have to sell your $2 chips for what you will eventually want, anyway.

The deals in the classifieds are plentiful…for now. It won’t last much longer…

Thanks, I did read that during one of my many browsing sessions, and there's great info on there. As soon as I'm able to post in classifieds I'll start posting wanteds for some sample sets.

Here's a question, am I better off getting several different cash sets to rotate, or, just spend more on a custom set? I don't know that slipping an outside chip in would ever be an issue with the people I play with, but, you never know. Anyone have any experiences to relate about people trying to slip outside chips in?

The nicer the chips the less likely they will have them for slippage….

True. Even with 3 or 4 sets of cheaper chips, eventually they could procure a few of each set and that could hurt a little.

Here would be my suggestion
( I'd likely, pick out some Apache Royal or Majestics and then reach out to @Gear for some custom labels.)

For the first set, I love the 43mm, and the feel of these for the cost is great. Gear has amazing work, and a cool person to hangout with =)
