Hello. I'm Jordan and I'm addicted to poker chips.

It happened so fast... Just a few days ago I was just looking for some super cheap chips to act as markers for a wild west board game. Dice chips wouldn't do. I needed denominations. I found what I was looking for, but in looking I opened my eyes to the world of chips.

I've wanted set for a long time, but never really liked dice chips. I had no idea there was anything better. I always admired they way a barrel of casino chips looked with the edge marks creating interesting patterns as a pro stacked them on WPT. Why didn't they have anything like that for consumers?

I started looking on Amazon and found some very interesting products. But they were all too heavy. 13.5g is silly. And the reviews were pretty bad. A search for "poker chip reviews" led me to the YouTube channel of the one and only John Hobby. And I'm sure you can guess where that led.

Now I have about 6 samples on the way, as well as 3 different plastic card sets and acrylic trays.

Now I just need to settle on my first set, find a decent case and a good table topper that works with my table. Oh and for covid to go away so I can set up a regular game. And to get way better because one of my friends was a pro player in his youth.

Anyway, glad to be here. I'm looking forward to sharing my new obsession with you all.

Awesome first post!! Welcome!! Lots of veteran chippers in your local area that may let you check out some chips... so you don't have to buy tons of samples!

They sell cheaper toppers on line, but I highly recommend if they do another group buy for PCF toppers to grab one of those, you will not be disappointed in their quality!

Best of lick on your chipping journey! Ben

That's a really nice topper. Unfortunately, I don't have room for a whole oval table. Small apartment. Mine is square, so I was thinking about getting one of those octagons with cushioned sides and cup holders that just sits on top. OR a square Majhong mat. Haven't quite decided. And with the 'Rona, I'm not in a huge hurry.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Glad to be here.

There’s a chip set designed by board gamers. “The bank” I think it’s called?

That's actually one of the sets I am thinking about getting. I like that the denomination is just the number. So it could be used for anything: cash games (both high and low stakes), tournaments, board games, whatever. And the design is very nice. I like the colors, inlay/stickers, train track imprint and edge spots.

For the board game, I just bought some garbage plastic chips on amazon. It's just to track experience points.

Just make sure to decide on a budget, that way in a year or 2 when you've blown by it by 10+ times you can have a good laugh.

In all seriousness, once you pick a budget try to stick with samples that fit that budget. As soon as you get samples for the high-end chips a voice in the back of your head will eventually find a way to rationalize paying thousands for chips. It may take months, years, but it is bound to eventually happen if you stay on this forum.

Also stay away from vendor sales selling Paulsons, they will seem like amazing deals compared to the general classifieds (and are, but in general will be more than the non-Paulson chips and are a gateway to more expensive chips).

Anyhow, that's been my experience. Welcome to the site!
