Need some help choosing a table (1 Viewer)

Hi PCFers,

I'm looking to buy a new table and get it felted with a custom design from here (I saw some great toppers on another thread and will definitely check something like that out).

I need advice on a table base. The criteria I'm looking for:
  • Hosting 6-8 people small cash games or friendly tournaments.
  • Folding table (I need to store it when not in use)
  • Drink holding(?) best solutions - I've heard either modify your table with deeper holds, or get a table without holds.
  • Sizing for custom topper (if there's a standard - barrington..etc.)
  • What kind of seating is recommended - fold chairs preferred or something decently comfortable, maybe ikea quality.

If you are on a tighter budget, the Barrington style table is a good choice. I have two fold up tables. One is a Barrington and one is made by Franlkin I believe. It came from Target's website years ago. They are both very similar. The Barrington is a bit lighter which is nice if I need to transport it. The other thing I like is that the tables fold up. I don't have the storage space for non folding tables currently. The cup holders on most of the folding Barrington style tables work but are not very deep. Lots of members have replaced them with deeper cup holders and there are plenty of threads on how to do that.

The best thing you can do for just about any table is purchase a table topper for it from @rjdev7 . You can customize it in anyway you can think of or go with a stock design. 8 to 10 person Barrington tables are all pretty much a standard size but I would recommend measuring the length and width of the playing surface to make sure you get the best fit. Plus if you add a topper, it will cover the seam in the middle and your cards will glide across the table like you were playing air hockey!!!

Whatever table you go with, I would keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace. Alot of times you can pick up used Barringtons or other tables for a pretty good price! Way cheaper than the $700 plus dollars Wayfair is charging for that blue Barrington table. The ESPN version can be found new from Walmart's site for around $299. Anything less than that is a good deal.

As far as chairs go, I just went the route of padded folding chairs from Costco. They work ok and fold up and store away nicely. I remember seeing a post from someone recently that was talking about a nice mesh looking folding chair from Home Depot I think. I will have to check those out next time I go there.

Just to chime in on tables for home games. If you dont have a dealer and you are hosting 6-8 players the table you want is a circle or octagon shape. They are for sale all the time on facebook marketplace. Buy one on there (50-100 bucks)) and then go to amazon and buy some good cloth (under 50 bucks) and put that new cloth on one of these used tables. Players can see each other much easier and the “board” is much easier to read when using ne of these tables. Also it is always infinitely easier to deal on these tables especially if you ever have older people playing in your game or people that have vision issues (colorblindness or just other issues). I have played poker for many years and i have played at all kinds of tables. For further credibility on this my father was a top player in the 90s and he and I discuss this all the time. Newer players to the game like to get a table that looks like a “casino” table and that’s understandable (they look cool and they are fun and exciting) but easily the better table functionally to play at is a circle or an octagon shaped table.

I can also do a topper for a circle or octagon table if you end up going that route.

$300 US dollars is a decent price for that style of table. Anything less than that is a decent deal. Facebook marketplace is a great place to find them especially if you are patient. Someone in my town has an ESPN Barrington posted for $150 right now. If I didn't already have more tables than my wife thinks we have storage for, I would have snatched it up! :ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Also, I am in Canadaland so unfortunately you have to convert USD to our shrutebucks (which are right now at 1USD = 0.74CAD). But I'll definitely keep an eye out on FB marketplace!
 
I figured some of those wayfair prices were in Canadian dollars but most of the time that site is way overpriced on poker tables. Unless there is a glitch in their pricing like earlier this past year. I just picked up a round WPT table for 10 bucks last week on FB marketplace. It was a great deal. Just needed cleaned up a bit. And of course I will have to buy a topper for it. But it will make a nice extra cash game table for players busting out of our tournaments.

Do you have any recommendations for a solid round table with holders?

Looks like the barrington or the the serenelife(?) are good options.

Solid round the easiest way is to buy a round table that you get a deal on- people will make these sometimes pretty cheaply. One of our games a guy had one made and delivered and price was not too bad at all and he has drink holders directly into the rail which is nice but may not be best for do it your selfers. Check amazon eBay for slide out options and some guys i know just drill 8 big holes in a circular osb table put the speed cloth on and then do a “drop in large metal cup to hold the drinks. And they dont use a rail and it actually works quite well although having a rail is better i think but not necessary.

for 6-8 players i like these octagon tables and it is actually nice having the designated spot per player. If you purchase one of those try to get one where the space in front (where the chips go) isnt too deep and if you play nlh or plo make sure everyone understands the rule of keeping the “big” denominations visible and in the front of thwir stacks. Go to a home depot type store where they sell flooring and purchase some thin floor underlayment foam (that they use for like laminate flooring - ask for partial rolls or returns too because you dont need a tofn of this stuff. you can also find partial rolls on facebook or craigslist that are cheap. Get the felt from amazon - speedcloth - look at my photos and there are a variety of greens red and black. Get your used table home and take off the old felt or if it is a pseudo foam pleather top like the one i sent in the photo - you could potentially just put the new felt over this and get a staple gun (again you can buy these new pretty cheap or from a marketplace or craigslist). If the himges are bad on the legs - take one off and go to a hardware store and have them help you with a replacement. Drinks for these tables i think work best with shared tv rrays around the table for food and drinks. 6-8 players there is a lot of room to be able to use a tv tra and share one with the person next to you. The drinkholders usually arent great on these tables so if you really want a drink holder drill out the current drink holder spots they have on the table (purchase a drill bit for drilling a door handle - this part could be a bit of work but if you know how big the hole size needs to be it can be done). If you want to spend even more money you can get a “slide out”. (See pics …sorry the pics are from a dealer table but youll get the jist of it). Not that when you look at these photos this is a table that looks ugly but all it needs is a new covering and it is an excellent table. Anyway if you look between these two pics you will see this person put “slide out” cup holders. This persons slide out is just a “hole” but then he has cup inserts that go in the hole and that will hold your drink. Go back and forth between pictures to see what i mean. So you could drill out holes and put in larger cup inserts to hold beverages or do a slide out style (many people do their own creative ideas here too) or just have people use tv trays. For 6-8 players you will be most happy playing on this kind of table. Good luck. The octagon table i showed doesnt have drink holders but many of the octagon tables do and you could drill directly through the crumby shallow spot and create a hole where you can do a “drop in” drink holder like in my attached photos. Just ideas guys. I know when we play on an onling table with no dealer there are many exposed cards and game gets slowed up because flop is too far away from people etc. … never seem to have those issues with the round or octagon style tables and for 6 or less its a no brainer. Either is fine but stay away from the obling unless you have a dealer space and have a dedicated dealer. Even 10 handed a larger round table performs much much better.

Call them and find out. I love my pub table. Though I definitely would have gone with a round or an octagon but my room isn’t quite wide enough.
