I am long time lurker on the blue screen and moved over here with everyone else but rarely post. Sorry in advance, but I just needed somewhere to vent.

I type this with a heavy heart as my father-in-law died unexpectedly Tuesday night. Not only was he my father-in-law but he was the heart and soul of our home game. He would supply the table and location and I would supply the chips and cards. He loved playing poker and looked forward to hosting everyone at his house. He was always mad when he busted out but after a 15 minute breather he would come back in as happy as always. We loved playing with him and will miss him so much. In addition he was a great grandfather to my kids and I am not sure how we will fill that void. Still in shock frankly.

He had some great sayings that we always made fun of like: "You guys didn't beat me. The blinds beat me" He never liked losing and never liked putting his money in with a less than premium holding (or so we thought) so this was a funny one. He also thought that if a lot of Jacks or some other card were showing up on the board early than they were going to be hot that night and would play any hand with them in there. He was born in 1958 so he loved 5-8 suited.

RIP Robert Duane Dye - We will miss you.

Lots of condolences. It's obvious all the love and admiration you had for your father-in-law after reading that. I'm sorry for your loss. All the best to your family, friends, and fellow degens as you mourn. Honor and celebrate his memory forever!

Very sorry to hear about your father in law - 57 is way too young. Makes you realize you need to live life to its fullest each and every day.

I was thinking of you just the other day when I posted my Grand Casino pron - thanks again.

This hits home for me. My father died 16 months ago. I know the loss you are experiencing and my condolences to you, your wife and family. I liked some of the memories you shared. Hold on to those... His spirit will be alive as long as he is remembered for what was uniquely Him. This is also thought provoking as I was born one year after Robert.
Will pray for peace in your family.
God Bless.

My thoughts are with you and your family in this time of sorrow. Lost my father in law just over two years ago, he was like a second father to me, and one of my best friends, I know the heartbreak you are going through. Keep the memories alive and talk about them often.

It's funny you mention that. When we were looking through pictures we found one of us using those chips in a game. He put two over his eyes for the pic. He was always having fun.

Take comfort knowing that your father-in-law will be looking down from heaven on all your future home games, laughing and smiling as your group shares memories of him. He will especially appreciate it when, in his honor, you make a poker play precisely as he would have (like re-raising out-of-position w/5-8s, or shoving with any hole cards containing the hot card of the night - - - i.e., any jack)! Many prayers your way, my brother in Christ.

Sorry to hear. RIP. Must've been a great guy with a saying like that. I may borrow it in the future.

Thanks for all of the comments. It is still quite a shock but all of the good memories are getting us through. I think a custom chip set will be a good way to keep the memory alive with our poker group!
