I need help ASAP on whether i'm making a good move pairing my .50c (that I am planning to build my set around) pictured below, and Sam's Town $1.

Any opinions and/or links to guides about matching colors and what not?

PS: The colors in the picture are not exactly right. Off camera, my chip is a little more "hot" pink, and the green is a little bit darker. the blue is fairly close.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think it will feel weird. BUT I can notice a difference between the molds for sure. I personally like THC much better than RHC (I think that is the generaly consensus around here).

Would you mind explaining the acronyms used please, im looking at the glossary but i don't see them.

Thank you

No problem. I remember being very confused over them for a while.

THC = Top Hat and Cane mold (ie Sam's Town)
RHC = Reverse Hat and Cane mold (ie Ameristar Casino)

Top Hat & Cane mold (Short Cane Version) on left, THC mold (Long Cane Version) in middle, Reversed Hat & Cane mold on right:

The hat/cane markings on THC chips are more defined with longer canes, and all canes point in the same direction. The RHC mold has two reversed hat/cane markings, and no protective outer ring (making it more prone to chipping where the hats are near the edge).

RHC mold chips also almost always has a larger inlay and less exposed clay, resulting in less surface contact area and less chip-to-chip friction in stacks (making the chips more slippery). It's the younger ugly stepchild that gets beaten a lot, especially around here.

my opinion they don't go well together.

Both chips are great looking chips just too many differences for my liking.

Curious on what others have to say.

I think the Sams Town, while nice, don't work with the fracs. First, don't fall into the trap that all your chips need to be vivid, eye popping colors. Too much and the various denominations will clash too much. Also, you don't want the same colors on different chips if you can avoid it.

In this case, I see two major problems: First, the colors of the Sams Town are too close to those on the frac you already have. Second, the frac has an inlay and the Sams Town does not. It is a bit weird to have that progression. It looks like @Drumhoss has some better options for you. Specifically, the Paris $1. That is an awesome chip, and would look great with your fracs. The white spots really pop, despite being small and only one color. Additionally, the spot progression from two spots on the frac to four simple spots on the $1 works great.

Maybe the NY NY chip? RHC mold (I think), picks up the blue from your frac but doesn't overwhelm with a bunch of new colors, spot progresses from 2 to 4 but still leaves you some room to progress to a busier $5.

This, 100%. In my opinion, it's only okay to mix inlaid chips and hot stamp chips in the same set if the hot stamp chips are the lower (and preferably only the lowest) denomination. Since you're starting with an inlaid frac, I think all your chips need inlays.

I still need to ask, what about the $1 from the same casino?

Love that 1/8" 4-spot with the pink frac! Shaped (faux) inlay, black background, a little color matching under the denomination. Perfect! I respectfully withdraw my NY NY suggestion.

I'd say it's time for a road trip to St Charles.

And preferably all on the RHC mold with a centered gold denomination on a faux-shaped inlay. That's a tall order.

in a mixed set, each denomination needs to be from a different casino.
Generally speaking, yes.....but I'm also okay with two chips each from three different casinos in a six-denomination tourney set.

Or even 2+2 or 3+3 from just two casinos (I call those married sets).

Most important (to me) is how the chips work with each other aesthetically.

You could also use the Horseshoe Cincinnati. I am sure @The Chip Exchange has some. Nice Faux shaped inlay. White base with blue and grey style 2- 212 spots. Also can't beat the price if he still has some

Even has a gold denomination. winner-winner-winner-winner-winner-winner-winner-winner. How many winners does one need? :)
