Are these basically china clays or similar/worse? They look inlay-ready for 55c a chip... might make for a decent tournament set perhaps?

Those are spirit mold china clays, made with 614-spots many years ago by Eastony Industries. The chips were first made available from a third-party vendor, have always been overpriced when viewed vs comparable china clays, and are not very common. They are new old stock, so deterioration may be an issue.

Most spirit molds were 4d14-spotted, with some 412-spotted and solids produced. 614-spots were a welcome addition to those wanting to build sets using the spirit mold, but were not popular due to the high prices charged by the vendor.
