I waffled on even posting this since it won't even come close to holding a candle to some of the trip reports that get posted. But here we go...

Arrived around 9am on Monday, dropped our bags off at Flamingo and grabbed some quick eats. They had $2/$4 seats available so my buddy and I each sat down and played for a while. He's not a huge poker fan (he's more into dice) but he humored me and played. Exactly 1 memorable/noteworthy hand for me: flopped a set of 5s on a 5-6-K flop and villain flopped a set of 6s. I played until 12:30 and cashed out up exactly $20. Ugh. It was fun though.

I headed toward Aria for the 1pm tourney. Lost 3/4 of my stack during Level 4 when I flopped top 2 pair on a A-Q-7 board and villain turned trip 7s. Not much excitement after that. I shoved just before the 2nd break with KdQd and got called by AsKs. Two diamonds on the flop (obv) but didn't get there. nh, gg. Played blackjack at Aria, went on a relatively big heater and then some doofus sat down, split 10s his first hand from 1st base, and long story short it turned into a $800 swing (in the wrong direction) for me. At least I walked away with my tourney entry re-couped plus a little more. Drowned my sorrows in a mammoth-sized chicken pot pie from Hash House A Go Go. It was some damn fine eats. Played dice at LINQ and broke even. Should have walked away after this dude went on a major heater and cashed out up $15k. lol It was fun to watch him sweat every roll.

Highlight of the trip for me was the 1pm tourney at Aria on Tuesday. After dropping $1k throwing dice at Venetian that morning I said F it, I need to play some poker. I feel like I played relatively well through the 2nd break and doubled up early in Level 7 when I called an all-in with AhQh and villain had black JJ. Runner-runner hearts ftw. Only other super memorable hands were:

1) 17 left, 2 uber short-stacks are all-in pre-flop, one with AJ and one with AT and I have 99. A-x-x on the flop. Oops. Turned a set for the double knock-out.

With 13 left (12 got paid...102 total entries) there is one objection to creating a 13th paid spot out of our own pockets. Grrr, oh well. Getting down to 12 took what seemed like forever but we got there. In the money!

2) 11 left, shoved w/ 88 on a 2-4-6 flop, villain had 77 and didn't improve.

At the final table the chips really started to fly around. I decided to just sit back and watch the carnage. I made some really nitty pre-flop folds in the process and it may have cost me some money....oh well.

3) 6 left, folds to me on the button and I try to steal the blinds and antes with Jc6c and get called by SB's AcTc...whoopsies...got caught with my hand in the cookie jar. J on the river. Poker is easy.

With 5 left we played an orbit or so when chip leader wants to make a deal. Chip leader has ~325k and the rest of us are relatively even (between ~150k and ~190k). We all agree and I get $1485. Old guy to my right says "You think my wife is still waiting for me at the restaurant we were supposed to eat at 5 hours ago?" LOL It's my first ever live casino tourney cash and I am still over the moon higher than a kite excited about it. Despite being relatively exhausted from the tourney, I got hammered with my buddy and the rest of the night is a blur. I woke up with a pocket full of black and purple Bellagio chips which was a nice surprise.

Woke up Wednesday with enough time to grab some food and donate some of those Bellagio chips back before heading to the airport. We were seriously hoping the weather in Denver was going to force us to stay another night but no dice. Left Vegas with more $$ than I started with for the first time since 2007 and it feels pretty nice to be in the black. Can't wait to get back to Sin City.

Thanks for reading - I don't have many pics but will post them soon (they're mainly just pics of Aria tourney chipes).

Nothing wrong with this TR at all. Only thing missing is creepshots for courage. Well done on the win. I have to get back out there. I've been twice. Once when I was much younger. I didn't know how to play poker, and only threw a quarter in a slot machine to say I did it. (I went to see a girl...) I also went last year, with my SO and her twin sister, but that trip was more for them, so the poker was at a minimum. At one point, we had spent about six hours in two different MALLS.... What a waste...

Yes, huge fail on my part for no courage creeper pics. Had plenty of chances.

I am thinking about getting these framed for my poker room. Lol.

I won my first poker tourney ever at the Mirage in 2009. CLB surprised me with an anniversary present where she made a framed thing for me with the tourney ticket, a little thing that said "1st place out of 61 players" and my winning hand (A4dd) with the backs of some Mirage cards and Mirage chips in the frame. I still have it in the basement where we play, pretty cool thing to remember your first tourney win with.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Nice TR Josh and great pics of the Aria tourney chips. Congrats on the tournament cash - that is a pretty tough daily tournament. Sorry I missed you by a day or two - I could have used some tutoring in craps.

I'm going to make obligatory creeper shots for Courage a mandatory part of all my TRs from now on

Here's the best paragraph:

Great TR, congrats on the win. Waking up to black chips and purple chips you must have been like awwwwwe yeahhhhh

Awesome TR, Josh! Big congrats on the tourney cash, sounds like you played great.

Oh, and they are perv shots people, not creeper shots. Huge difference. Creeps go to jail and get listed for sex crimes, pervs are merely charming OMC's with an appreciation of the female form and fascination with photography.

I enjoyed your tr a lot, great work in the tourney. Need to get over there this year, just up the road from here, planning to go with new GF. :)

Sounds like a great trip and congrats on the win!

Nice TR. I wish I knew how to play BJ and Dice confidently, and not lose my shirt. Seems like awful big swings.. I stuck to poker. The tourney runs seem like solid play. Glad it worked out for the last one (big time).

I hope your pockets are cargo pockets.

And that you now have a Bellagio set to rival Kadrik.

Thanks for the read!

Mike

One of my all time favorite Las Vegas stories involves shopping with the SO about 10 years ago... Long story short, I got hammered. Love the open container laws down there. [/threadjack]

Congrats on the tourney cash, I loved rolling through the pics watching the stack get bigger and bigger.
