My Man Cave Remodel (2 Viewers)

Just a word of advice, I had replace two Glacier Bay (HD brand I think) faucets on my laundry sink within 3 years. They tend to drip. The ones I had have no replaceable parts. I'd stay away from that brand. This time I got an American Standard faucet. It has ceramic coated discs which they say won't ever leak. We shall see.

My tankless water heater came on Monday. I just now opened the box in the garage. It's brand new, as described on eBay. One small ding on the front cover from shipping I guess. I saved $750 so no big deal. :)

RHEEM Date of Manufacture _ Serial Number Style 2.jpg

Going by this...my unit was manufactured in April of this year.
I just registered the warranty online. Expires in 2027! LOL
Everything seems legit.

Wouldn't that be April of 2012, not 2015? Unless Mexico is still using the Mayan calendar....

Looks like you are getting close. This project started about when I joined the site maybe? Light at the end of the tunnel...

That's an example photo of how to determine the manufacturing date from the serial number. Mine starts with M1415xxxxx. So April of 2015.

I hope so. Getting the tankless was never in the original plan. The wife wanted her own space for her hobbies so she got the spruced up laundry room. (in progress) I'm just lucky she went for that else I'd have a sowing machine next to my poker table . :D To get more floor space and to replace an aging tank style water heater, I got the tankless.

Once this is all done, the next project is to remodel the upstairs main bathroom. (full gut) After that I don't see any more interior projects.

Put some wheels on the work bench finally. Before I had to take everything out from inside of it in order to move it. Painted the walls and part of the floor in the laundry room.

Refrigerator was delivered yesterday too. The delivery guys did a good job. No banged up walls getting down the steps. :)

Today's project:

  1. Remove unused 220v line to dryer and 30amp breaker from panel.
  2. Replace with 2 x 15amp breakers.
  3. Run line for new basement refrigerator.
  4. Run line for receptacle next to tankless water heater.

Finally got around to getting the tankless mounted.

The exhaust and intake on top take 3" Schedule 40 PVC but since my run will only have 1 elbow and be under 5ft, I can use 2" PVC instead. Not sure if it makes any difference it I use a 3" to 2" bushing vs a 3" to 2" coupling. I'm guess the bushing will have a cleaner look.

Also got the refrigerator and ice maker hooked up. I reversed the doors so they aren't banging into the wall and makes it easier to access from the wet bar.

I tapped into my existing ice maker line with a brass compression tee and ran a line over. (I don't like plastic ice maker lines and fitting) Silly me puts pipe dope on compression fitting threads.

Another wall that needs to be painted. :( I had to move the some stuff to the other side so we can access the the gas lines. This pic shows a feature of the house that we thought was really cool. Can you find it?

The only thing I can see that is out of the ordinary to my eyes is the piece of wood above the I-beam. Though that is probably just for leveling purposes.

Hmmmm...I got shit. (unless that is a double wall with a hidden room behind).

Steel beams in your basement = cool
Moisture board in basement = cool
Everything else you've done = cool

Is it the piece of wood coming off the I-beam a deflector for the laundry chute, so clothes don't get caught on the gas line?

For the hvac guys, I heard this stuff is pretty good for gas pipe. Ever use it?

Put the last basement window in yesterday. $88 off the shelf Anderson from HD. Saturday, we re-did the gas lines from the meter in to get the new line over the tankless. The tank water heater is still hooked up until we get the water lines done.

Great work, Tommy!
Thanks. The gas line was done by a friend of mine who does that type of work for a living. It was pressure tested and checked for leaks. Best to leave that to a professional. I was just a helper... "hold this", "get me that tool", etc. :)

Still have to put the receptacle in, secure the condensate drain, and do some wire management but it fired right up with no issues. The tank water heater is out on the curb for trash pick up tomorrow. :)

I was a journeyman plumber long ago. That is some quality installation you have done. When is this damn room doing to be ready?

Thanks Mike. My dad has done most of the plumbing, so he gets all the credit.

Soon I hope! I have exterior projects that I need to get done.

Putting the last of the drywall up in the utility room today.

Got the last of the drywall sealed tonight.

I noticed a slow leak (wet threads) on the tankless cold water service valve. I ended up taking it completely off and re-installed it using double density teflon tape and Rectorseal T + 2 pipe dope. Good to go now.

Still got to secure that condensation drain. ;)

These are going on the ends of the intake and exhaust pipes to keep the critters out. The screens and clips are stainless steel so they won't rust.
