Go Stumpy Go! they say... hahaha

I effin love Poker, more than anyone I know in the flesh... Only my wife and my business partner know my obsession with chips and Poker in general...

I really want to get a regular game going, I have a mezzanine at our shop and a 8' Round felt table... currently I have these chips:

Bellagio_set_zps58806f7b.jpg

I got a sample set of China Clay Desert Palms, Pharaoh's, and a sample set of ASM's....

I effing love the ASM's.

Then I got a ream of 25 $5 Milano's, and realized how much I still love ASM's.

I think I paid $60 for the set of Bellagio sluggers.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to create a set of Milano's to play with right now, while I save up and collect my favorite set of all, Paulson Pharaoh's Club. I think I can get a good set of Milano's for ~$300, and then buy a bit at a time to collect my dream set.

So thanks for having such a nice site to chat on, and I'm sure I'll get to know you all a bit more soon!

Welcome aboard! The suggestion we give all the new members is get Samples and secondly get samples. When you move in to the Paulson chips you can expect to pay over $1 per chip so make sure you really like the Pharaohs before jumping in. Also check the ads here and when you get enough posts under your belt to post in the wanted section be sure to let us know what you are looking for. You never know who has what in their chip closet that they are willing to part with.

I personally started with Paulson Casino chips, Grand Vic Primaries which are usually in well casino used condition. I amassed a set of over 100o and then I had an opportunity to buy some other Casino Paulsons. It got out of hand from there. I have since sold ,y first set but I now a at least a couple of Las Vegas Casino sets. I have a thing for old Las Vegas Casinos and really have not deviated from that passion since selling the Grand Vics. Literally 100% of my playable chips are from Las Vegas. Kind of gets expensive but oh well.

Have fun and know that there are many great folks here that are willing to help! Oh and by the way did I mention to get samples before buying?

Hold on to your wallet tightly!

Chip on!

Thanks!! I was planning to get Desert Palms or Pharaoh's CC chips until I bought the samples, then I was kinda meh on them.. The ASM chips blew me away, I guess I really need to get a sample set of real paulsons before I get too carried away. I love chips and will be building a display cabinet in my new workplace man cave.

I think you're already ruined. I would say to not waste your time & money on the Milano's. Even if you use them for only a short time, you will never be happy. You already know you want Paulsons. Even the ASM's are just Paulson substitutes IMO.

I suggest you search for one of the more readily available casino Paulsons - even in pretty round condition. They will hold their value until you find the set of your dreams - at least for the time being! :D

Welcome!!

Hi Stumpy,

Id also take into account what games you play - Cash or Tournament, and what stakes, before you make your final decision.

Id also second the notion not to bother with the Milanos. There is nothing wrong with those chips, but if you already know you want ASM or Paulson, then throwing $300 at something else is only a speed bump to getting you to your final goal. Spend the $300 on the chips you want, and continue to build the set at your pace.

Welcome Stumpy!!

I also agree with the previous comments. You don't have to buy a full set out of the gate. You can build it one rack at a time. It appears you already have a playable set to tie you over. Rather than spending $300 on Milanos, that could buy you your first 2-3 racks of Paulson's. Then build and add from there.

This was the same advice that was given to me when I joined and looking back now, I'm glad I followed it. Once you dabble in Paulson's, the Milano's won't cut it.

Yeah Yeah Yeah I know I know I always seem to jump in and need to buy SOMETHING, but I definitely should get some samples of paulsons before I fully decide...

Any yeah, scrap the Milano set because I won't likely get my $ back out of it selling later. I have no problem having multiple sets, however... We are building a man-cave on the Mezzanine of my Shop, have dart board & poker table already, and on the lookout for a pool table. I will definitely be building or finding a display case for poker chips!

ASM, or CPC as they are now known, are not a Paulson substitute. Some of us prefer them. They are the only game in town if you want custom casino grade compression clays.

Paulsons are great, but I put them behind a perfectly made BCC, or a TRK.

I do think Paulson has some nicer colors and edge spot patterns than CPC, but Paulson won't build me a set. And CPC is adding great new colors these days.

Anyway, welcome, and Go Stumpy, Go!

I want a cash set so badly, because I love playing cash games...

However most of my friends are tournament players, and my close friends all prefer tournaments especially when attracting new players... New players won't play a cash game nearly as easily as a $20buyin or even $5buyin tournament, with rebuys.

So I think I'll start searching for a tournament set as my first *set*, and then slowly slowly build up my dream cash game set on the side :)

If I had ~$900usd I'd be buying that gorgeous ASM Royal Cardroom set from @krafticus ( http://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/asm-royal-cardroom-solid-tournament-set.12483/ ) $850usd is currently ~$1100cdn :(

DAMN that's a pretty set :)

Welcome!! Honestly I was in the same boat as you. I wanted to get a cash game going but people I played with were stuck on tourneys. I bought a cheaper solution for the time being to host the tourneys (CC Pharaohs) and then finally convinced people to play cash games. Now we play cash games with the Paulsons. Happy Happy Happy

Stumpy,

for the last 10 years I've bought/sold so many tourney/cash sets its ridiculous. I would buy a new set. Use it once or twice and sell it. Lather, rinse, repeat. I finally decided to do a custom cpc cash set. I loved it.

Then I I latched onto @Phantom and picked me up a custom cpc tourney set. All this within six months of each other lol. I couldn't be happier.

My weekly group played $5 NLHE tourneys when I joined them, now it's a .05/.10 cash game featuring a mix of crazy high variance games.

They rarely play Holdem and never play tournaments, but the stakes remain comfortable. Change was slow, but now they're much more comfortable in new game situations.

Hello and welcome to the best community of real enthusiasts, afficionados, connoisseurs, collectors, and simply people and friends of the compression clay molded and classics Bud Jones style chips, (that like you go bonkers over).....whew........Top Hats & Cains you say? This group of wild one's need a monical to go with that get up because they're NUTZ......get it? I say all this with being a new member myself, and with all those words I'm actually talking about myself, I FREAKING LOVE CHIPS AND MORE SO POKER. Every kind of POKER. My butt is tied up with other finances right now however $300 on Milano's sounds like $300 not towards my custom CPC (ASM) dream set, sooooooooooo I would too suggest not. If you have the kind of scrilla to satisfy your immediate home games, then perhaps at least check out the re-new and coming back DUNES @ Apache poker chips. Like others this is my personal opinion and you are the king of your castle and we all have respect . "MAY YOUR POTS BE MONSTERS AND YOUR CARDS BE LIVE" and again welcome GoStumpy...Go

Looking and seeing a bunch of PCA $1's for sale, quite likely the start of my cash set???

1 Rack or 4 Racks?

Looking at eBay, $170/rack seems like a good price
Based on recent activity, $170 for a rack of the highly sought after PCAs in mint condition is a very good price. I personally would purchase a minimum of 2 racks. Depends on stakes and other factors though.

I have a dilemma!! Or not... I can either spend that $500 on some awesome sweet chips that will barely get used but be super sick and beautiful....

Or spend $350 on a pool table that will get used almost daily....

Damn I think I might have to buy both.... I mean.. Wait to buy chips :(

Thoughts???

It all depends on one factor! AGE! If you are over 60 like I am, buy BOTH and don't even look back. My entire life I saved and sacrificed and said no to myself and my wife about buying things. But at some point you have to ask yourself, what have I been saving for and when can I start SPENDING what I have saved? That time is here! I rarely say no any more...LIFE is SHORT and getting SHORTER ALL THE TIME. Time to have a little fun! I don't live by need anymore, I get what I want!
