Post your first set of non-suited/non-dice chips.

After going through multiple samples... I got a set of fantasy Paulsons and can't stop touching them.

History of an addiction:

First set of 1000 explosive 11.5g slugged dice/crown chips (used once). They're yours for the cost of shipping:
213-stacked.jpg

Second set of 1000 explosive 11.5g slugs - you'd think I would have learned, but no... (since sold):
Tournament_Pro_Series_Poker_Chips.jpg

Las Vegas Pro 9g, the material is sort of the precursor to china clays. 3240 chips total, cash & tourney:

12g slugged Prestige Pro #727 -- these stack like bricks with printed bright colors. 2825 total chips (cash & tourney):

Dunes Commemorative chips, 9.5g injection-molded version - 1000+ tourney set (sold):

Venerati 10g ceramics, 1000+ tournament set (sold):

Pharaoh's Club & Casino, 10g china clays - 1000+ tourney set (sold):

My first Paulson set, PCA primary chips - quickly discovered I really don't like worn casino chips, and hate cleaning them. (most sold, a few $25's left):

So then I bought these -- minty-fresh PCA secondary chips -- and into the rabbit hole I fell.....

Now, nearly 30,000 chips later, my four favorite chip sets are those secondary PCAs, an always-evolving mixed-casino set (currently PCA-5/Aztar-25/Casablanca-100/RVCL-500/Empress-1000), and these two:

20th Century, Paulson fantasy - 2100+ original chips (plus set extensions planned):

Grand Championship of Poker, custom BCC on TFP mold (1400+ chips):

Not all pics posted above are mine. Too busy playing with chips to take photos.... :)

I don't have pics...

1000 Faux Clay (traded), to a 1000 dice chips, 300 ceramic Nevada jack skulls (sold), 1000 Showdown (current tourney set) and now 750 Milano cash game set.

Now I'm hooked. ...trying to figure out how and what Paulson to start buying...(maybe even stevens)

I identify with the rabbit hole comment :). Did you take the red or the blue pill?

Strike, how do you like the Milanos? I almost got a thousand of those then saw the chips I wanted on eBay and I was sold. I might still get a small set for cash game since the set I have doesn't have quarters...

I love the Milanos & can't stand the CPS set. Others' preferences are the exact opposite. Of all the CC's, the Milanos are my fav so far, and it's not even close.

Preferences do indeed vary wildly regarding CC chips. The Milano chips are by far my least favorite china clay chip, mostly due to the mold and how it affects handling.

Ditto for me. Clearly not a majority opinion, but they feel the worst of all the CCs I've owned. I used to really like the way they look and now I really don't, but that might just be my association with how they feel.

So far I really like them. But they're not Palsons...next weekend I'll be playing with my dad's CPS set. So I can give more feedback then.

The Milanos were the first 'real' poker chips I owned and I loved them. This could have been due to the fact that all I had owned prior to that set were slugged chips, but I still have a soft spot for them. My only worry with the Milanos was that the mold was very shallow and could disappear after continued use. I haven't had the chance to handle the CPS chips yet, so the Milanos are my favorite China clay chip. It looks like there could be a very interesting future for China clays in the future. Lathing would make China clays really awesome.

I'm an oddball, here. My first chips were Paulson solids - mostly Starbursts with a few Fun-Nites mixed in, bought lightly used from Paulson Casino Supply in Atlantic City, while I was doing classes to get my dealer certification. That was somewhere just after 1990.

(Subsequent to that, I handled an awful lot of actual casino chips.)

I never got pictures of that set, and they eventually disappeared, along with the car whose trunk they were in.

My next set was Paulson Fun-Nites, bought new from Paulson Casino Supply. I still have that set:

A few years ago, I picked up a set of 2000 terrible slugged chips for hosting a couple of tournaments, and hate them and the cheap labels they most came with. I have them in a box, and debate whether or not to sell them - regardless the price, I'd feel bad for the buyer. And I'd have to at least charge shipping for those stupid slugs.

My first set was also the 2005 Isthmus chips, 25's through 1000's.

I love those chips - the large recess makes them sound and feel superior to the smaller-inlay versions in my opinion. Having sampled pretty much every GPI-era Paulson fantasy chip line, I prefer those to any other.

Nice work - hope you enjoy them!

My first set wasn't as high end as some of the others on here. For my 40th birthday, I received 1000 11.5g laser hologram chips from some of my buddies.

Worked ok for the games I was playing (denoms didn't matter..each chip was worth 1). Then I joined a league that used denoms, and started to host. A few things bothered me...the chips were difficult to read, the colours were close (blue / black / purple were too close). And expanding the set was a problem, as chip heights were a problem. So, I went on the hunt for another set.

Got a Yak tourney set
July4th_4.jpg

Which I still use. But I wanted a set that could also be used as a cash set, and a china clay set. So, I bought into the CPS group buy for a tourney set, with T5's in case we wanted to have a 5c/10c cash game (we were only talking about cash games at that point). While that was in the works, I ended up buying a Yak cash set to cover a 5c/10c to 25c/25c game.

Yak_Cash_1.jpg

Then the CPS set came in
20150120_133604 (Medium).jpg

While I had my heart set on getting a Paulson hot stamped tourney set, they are now priced well out of reach. If the Cdn dollar ever gets close to the USD, a CPC or GOCC custom set may replace one of the above sets, but for now, the above is enough.

You're not alone, although my opinion of the CPS chips isn't as strong as yours. I have samples of most of the CC's, and the PGI great walls are my favourite CC's, followed by the Milanos. The CPS chips were a bargain (I now have 900 of them), but if they were priced the same, I would choose the Milanos over the CPS chips. I'm just not a fan of the cross-hatching and beveling on the CPS chips, which I know is a huge selling point for others. Just my preference.

Starting with the best makes it hard to go back to anything else :). Bummer about it disappearing with your car...

Thanks! Yeah I really enjoy them. We're you able to get plaques? Looks like no one sells them anymore.

Cool gift from your buddies. Those yak and cps sets look nice. I remember reading about the group buy for the cps way too late...

I finished Black jack school and am taking the poker dealing class now, and those look just like the chips we practice with. (yours are cleaner and not as beat up) Very nice chips overall.

Which school are you going to?

No pics now. First set was a 500 Bikini Watchers. All the chips looked the same, they sucked. Next was casino used Paulsons. Then it's the same story as Xurtan a few posts back...

Bikini Watchers? I'm afraid to google that.

Can't wait to get your samples :).

And Down the rabbit hole you go....

BGinGA showed it all, the journey that started with "I want a poker chip set for a home game"......then:

Kings chips for my home game

Then these for my Relay For Life poker tournament fundraiser:
JP25tournament.jpg

Then I saw these AWESOME chips:

Then I saw THESE baby's But I needed $1s:

Then I got these beautiful chips:

Always like those Desert Sands chips. One of my favorite ceramic sets, even without aligned edges.

Great journey! Looking forward to seeing your customs posted. Are you planning on providing sample orders?

I, unfortunately, will not be doing a custom set for a little while, but I do have a design in mind and theme..I need to win the lottery for at least $2000 first.. When I do get a custom set, Samples will absolutely be available..

Desert Sands was my first non dice chip set.

DesertSands.jpg

Then PCR's

DSCN3248.jpg

My first custom cash set. When I obviously didn't have help with a denomination break down. Oh, and when they were just a touch cheaper lol.

SANY0715.jpg

I've had a ton of sets since then that I no longer own. Some I didn't even get into play before reselling them

My journey started with customs. ABS slugged because "official casino weight". Even worse, before I bought, I got samples, including ASM Maine, and still went with ABS slugs (columns 2-7 below). I had 6 player games - if I was lucky. Eventually the group died, and then it came back to life (zombies do that, you know). It grew you the point that I needed just a handful of T1000s, so I picked up a barrel of PCRs (column 1), and relabeled them - horribly. Paper labels, hand cutout. I still did not get the bug.

Then the group grew to over 15 players. My ABS set couldn't handle that, so I tried to add on. I contacted the maker of my original chips, but he couldn't make them anymore, the blanks were not up to snuff. He sent me samples for free, and he was quite right. I wanted ABS, and the new ABS wasn't as good as the old ABS. So I did an addon with ceramics (columns 8-13). This is when I suddenly learned that all chips are not the same thickness either. Ben dubbed this set "Frankenstein".
Pr0n.jpg

When I heard of the massive BLGoP group buy on the once mighty ChipTalk (via HomePokerTourney), I jumped on board. I could not believe that I could actually get chips for as little as 15¢ a chip. Of course, as we know that GB never went through, but it did transform into the slightly more expensive CPS buy. Again, I went custom.
IMG_0361.JPG

Now of course, my attempt to save money by joining CT was... ill conceived. Because I found a fondness for designing chips, I just bought more...
IMG_0382.JPG

When I heard about the possibility of the FDL mold being repaired, I made a push to make sure the project would be attempted. I wanted to assure CPC that if they could fix the mold, that my money was theirs. So while they were trying to collect 10% deposits they were coming up short of the financial goal. The FDL project appeared to be dead. I sent them a check the full 100% of my order - just in the hopes they could revive the FDL - because zombies have a way of coming back from the dead.
My efforts were rewarded:

This place hasn't saved me any money, but it's been a hell of a trip!
