After searching this fine forum I found the Apache cases people were using from Harbor Freight. Being a car guy and going there on occasion I found this pretty interesting, so I opted to snag a 4800 and give it a shot. Got my new chip set yesterday and spent time figuring out where things were going to sit. I have a mix of 43mm racks (4) and 50mm racks (2). My original plan was to cap each rack with a topper of the same size, just flipped upside down. This ended up not really working due to space. Only the 50mm racks have toppers on them, the rest do not but the top foam seems to keep them set and if not, I have a strip of foam that I'll place on top of the racks.
Thankful to those who provided this as an option for chip storage/transport.

These apache cases are pretty cool, I've heard of people using them for graded trading cards and cutting out the foam to fit the hard plastic containers for those. This is the first I've seen for poker chips.. but it makes perfect sense!

I was pretty surprised too, when I was searching on here for chip storage and found people using these. But yeah, with the modifiable foam and sturdy case, its a very viable option for a reasonable price. I'm stoked to show up at our home game with this case and see what people think :D

It has grown again since that photo and actually need 2 - 3 more right now! Lol

They are even great for displaying chips at meet ups as well.

The 3800's are also awesome forests up to 1,000 chips

Its tight, not much room for extras, but it still gets the job done. Works for Matsui type racks also

Great storage options for a resonable price!

I need to get a few but have been waiting for the cases to go on sale. I have a 700, 800 and 900 pc set that I need to get cases for. If I want to have room for buttons and a setup, what would you recommend for each? I know 4800 for the 900 pc set but wasnt sure if I could get by with 3800s for the other two.

All of those would fit in the 3800 series... but now you bring up the issue of odd racks.

So, in the 3800 case double stacks fit perfectly, the chips sit just above the lip and the top chips press into the lid foam and keep the chips secure. On the 4800 series they sit down about 3/4" lower than the top so we add a piece of 3/4" thick foam and cut the second layer of pluck foam down to half thickness to achieve the correct height for the chips to "push up" into the lid foam. Naturally the 4800 series are perfect for triple stacked racks which means it can hold 2,100 chips total. With the cheater 3/4" foam it holds up to 1400 chips.

Both series cases come with 2 layers of pluck foam, so for those odd # racks, you have to leave the lower level of pluck foam and let the odd rack sit on top of it. Not Ideal as over time the pluck foam will start to separate. You can use heavy cardboard, thin plastic like they use on wall of restaurants as a plate resting on top of the pluck foam to protect it. But unfortunately there isn't really an "ideal" way of making it right for odd racks. There are other options like using closed racks (Matsui, Apache, the 25/4 plastic boxes that Spinettis sells) and standing those boxes on end, I will have to take a photo of the Midnight casino case because I have 1,100 in there in a unique pattern now.

It is much easier to add a 15th rack to a 4800 series case as you just cut out the 3/4" foam below to allow a triple stack. But yeah the odd racks are always a bit of a pain. I often buy extra racks of chips just so I don't have to deal with that issue! Lol

I will try to snap some more pictures of inside of these cases as I get asked all of the time and never have pictures to show of the customization parts.

Inspired me to go out and buy a 4800 before even using the 3800 lol. Love how modular they are, excellent choices.
