Airport

MSN is super convenient and might be the easiest airport you've ever flown in/out of. I think there are a whopping 12 gates and 3 baggage carousels if you check a bag. Seriously. Easy peasy. Touch-down to my front door in 30 minutes. Waunakee is approximately 15-20 minutes from MSN airport.

For planning purposes, I will assume that all attendees are planning to eat the meals provided on a given day. If for some reason you are not planning to eat, please let me know (vegetarian, dieting, etc…). Some of the catered food needs to be ordered well in advance.

(F)AQ's

Q- What kind of cool ‘meet-up” shwag will I get for coming to the MTTD?
A. There are tons of things in store, from a laminated ID badge to commemorative chips, and more. In short: Lots, but you’ll have to wait and see.

Q- Are straddles allowed?
A. Single straddles are allowed

Q- What’s the “Beat” under the tournament payouts?
A. The “best losing hand” prize. Whoever has the best losing hand wins this prize. Rules: hand must reach showdown, must use both hole cards.

Q- Are there any casinos nearby?
A. Ho Chunk casino has a decent poker room, and is 40 minutes away.

Q- Will there be vegetarian meal options?
A. Yes, beer is made with barley and hops.

Q- Where would you recommend I stay?
A. As stated above, the hotels are very close. It’s all highway running between Waunakee and DeForest, so plan on a short commute either way. Personally, my preference would be the Waunakee Hotel for location (right off the highway). It’s a 3 minutes to Trihonda’s. However, you can’t go wrong with any of the hotels listed.

Q- I RSVP'd, how do I find out the address?
A- When we get closer, maybe late April or early May, I will PM everyone the event specifics, to include addresses, contact numbers, and last minute updates. FYI, for game safety, organizers reserve the right to turn away those with very low post counts.

Q- What was the first MTTD like?
A- AlbinoDragon started a Live Blog on Chiptalk with photos, stories, etc... Since CT seems to be on it's last leg, I'm posting a link here. When I attended my first meetup, it was reassuring to see the previous year's thread to know it was legitimate, safe, and worthwhile.

I have this on my calendar, but I will be undergoing back surgery in the near future. This will certainly tap out my sick time - not much left after the cancer battle (hurrah old age) - and after missing 9 sick days my employer docks vacation time in addition to the sick time (the fun of being a government employee in a red state).

Short story, not looking good to to make it. Luckily I was already approved the time off for the Hitching Post game, and they cannot take that away from me. :)

This does suck. Why don't you change the date to sometime during summer? Spread out the tournaments between Windy City, Derby Showdown, and Bounty Battle at the Border games.

I think the dates are pretty set. It would be very difficult to switch at this point. I do my annual vacation selection on Monday, and if I switched dates, I'd need to do so NOW... If I had a huge showing of support for pushing to summer, I'd do so. But I can hardly stand the thought of waiting until May... Asking me to wait another two months longer is painful!

About the date selection:

No one wants to visit WI in Feb or March (WI gets cold, people run away from WI in those months).

We did April last year, but another meetup snagged April already (not a big deal, as April would have tough for my work schedule).

July has been the WCB, but Jeff has yet to announce if (or when) he'll be hosting. I want to give the WCB a wide berth, so there are no conflicts (especially given the proximity). So June, July, Aug were not considered.

I'm very hopeful we'll have a much better turnout than last year (and last year was a blast). Hey, at least it's NOT Easter weekend. :)

August = always good. Well, for me at least. Blame the monsoon thunderstorms that shut things down at the observatory.

I'm just waiting for the summer trimester to get closer before I request dates, but as mentioned before, I'm 95% in for MTTD2.

(I told family a few years back, if they want to make sure I am at some family gathering, the only guaranteed time I'm good to go is August. I was able to get a family reunion scheduled for early August as a result, but another one in late June a couple years later was a no-go for me as a result)

May is fine. Moving to after Memorial Day can also affect attendance for those with families. Vacations tend to be planned (by spouses) that can cause players to miss events. This way people can attend without screwing up family plans.

When I first looked into attending a meetup (the WCB), I wasn't sure what to expect. Reading the previous year's blog was instrumental in building my confidence that it'd be a fun, safe, and friendly event. Our first MTTD was amazing, and far surpassed my fun-factor expectations! The live blog really did a great job of showcasing the debauchery and fun! However, this blog is located on another forum, which has questionable stability. In light of this, I'm electing to preserve the photos from this other blog, here.

Enjoy.

Day two begins with crazy first hand. AD and I both flop broadway... Chop pot!

Both are holding :Ks :Js and :Kh :Jh

FLOP :As :Qh :10h

On the turn :7s, we both have flush draws, that bust on a dead river... CHOPIT!!!!

EDIT to add the craziest hand from day ONE (arguably the most talked about on all three days).

I hit :Kd :Kc Some aggressive betting pre-flop has me and Links heads up.

Flop is :Ks :10d :3h

More aggressive betting, leads to me asking Links for a count of his stack. Links looks down, exposes his chips to view (maybe $70 worth), after a split second I call "all in" I really didn't even give Links a chance to look...

Links calls, flips over :10h :10s.

The odds of set over set is such, that we were both getting it in. Nothing you can do.. I felt very "poker" sorry.

Aaaaand in good meet up host fashion, the host is out first.. (I aspire to be everything Jeff). We both now have first out trophies.. Now onto the wait for cash games...

Trihonda's downfall...

Pocket queens, flopped Q48, turned 4 (a FH 4), villain and hero both get it in... Villain shows pocket 4s. GG NH.

I had villain covered, but was devastated. All-in next hand with pocket 6's. Sucked out on.

Jeff wins the $380 first place and takes $50 in bounties. But... Leaves his pre-tourney cash chippies in the cabinet uncashed... Jeff, I will bring your cash chip money to the WCB in August. ;). Otherwise, you can pick them up at the MTTD 2

Ha!

Trihonda said:
I was the same way when I first attended the WCB. Hope to see you there (assuming it flies in August)!

It was a lot of work, but worth every bit! And I know I speak for Links when I say that our appreciation for those who made the effort to attend is almost beyond words. All the effort would have been pointless if people hadn't shown up. I'm so glad we had an awesome turn out! All the preparations allowed Links and I to enjoy the event, without having to stress too much.

I feel so extremely honored and humbled that people booked plane tickets and drove hours to attend this event. It shows they're either compulsory degenerates, they had way too much money on their hands, or they had some insight into the epic-ness of the event. I'm assuming they were just insightful. ;)

I do regret more local CTers didn't attend, but it was Easter weekend, so it's completely understandable. I'm hoping that next year, we'll have so many CTers rsvp, that there'll be no reason to invite local non-CTers.

Pics please!!!

Huge shout outs to Jim at the Chip Room for making this event mad bosss, to Josh at Apache for bringing a little Vegas into the event, to Game on Chip Company, John at Poker Chip Mania, and p5woody for the commemorative chip design artwork.

Each attendee received Aztar sample sets, Aztar Gaming Tokens, Dunes and Palm commem CC hundos, a 12 Pack of Hard Rock playing cards (new-sealed), a poker chip key chain, a random collectable Vegas Poker Chip (already airtited), a laminated MTTD name badge with Bucky retractable lanyard, and the chance to flip for several cool GOCC ceramic sample sets, etc..

Here's the mockup of the MTTD 2 Chip. It will be an oversized ceramic, similar to last years chip.

I have a request in for Spotted Cow, and Ale Asylum Ambergeddon. Let me know if there are other requests. I can't guarantee anything, but will try.

Count me in for the main event on Saturday. Friday tentative for cash game.
Very cool!!! For those wondering who this guy is... possibly questioning his low post count, he's actually a friend of mine, who attended the MTTD last year and plays regularly. Very glad you can make it to this year's MTTD 2. H

e's also been lurking quite a bit, and has been trying to sign up on CT for quite some time, and shockingly experienced difficulties with registering. Sounds like he's also on board to attend the WCB in July.

Welcome aboard sir. It's about time.

Mr. Cheese will be there :)

Ok...my attendance will depend on when my daughter's final exam schedule is for this year. I have to go pick her up from college in Ohio and it looks like Miami's finals schedule is May 11-16. My fetching and carrying skills are required when my daughter moves out and I'm pretty sure my wife won't give me dispensation on this.

I will confirm for sure and keep in touch...it will kill me to miss the cheese fest!

I just mentioned the idea to the wife today about me getting up there. I got the look, but with the ok... I think because the 14th is my birthday. I know I can't be there for Thursday because I have a choir concert that day, but there is a chance I could make it for Friday night/Saturday. Probably won't know till it gets closer.

Apparently I was posting this as you were sending me a message. Lol. Also let me know as it gets closer if you need more people and want me to pass along the message to some of my regs. Jeff, Abby, and djmarc could all vouch for them.

That's an awesome offer. I want to get as many chip enthusiasts IN first, and haven't even broached the idea of this event to my local regs. A number of them know it's in the works (because they were the few locals that got invited to last years MTTD), but I haven't shared details (unless they're members of CT or PCF).

If your locals are already members of CT or PCF, then by all means, encourage them to sign up. :) I know there's a ton of Chicagoland chippers, and I'm only 2.5 hours away (going the speed limit).

That's what I figured at this point, but as we get closer and if you have extra spots after your locals I figured the Chicago group is probably the next closest to fill seats. We have some people on the north side as well which makes there drive even less than someone like me and also a lot of these guys will drive an hour to a for an evening so 2 hours for a weekend would be an easy sell.

I'll probably know better personally by like mid April so just put me as tentative, but if you need a spot for someone more definitive no big deal.

I will always make room for a PCF or CT member, even if it means booting a local. I don't think it will come to that, but it's a chip event after all!

Bumping this thread up! Let's get some more people signed up for the MTTD 2!

If we don't end up getting enough people signed up I have a few of my poker buddies that I play with (known since I was 6 years old) that I could ask if they'd be interested in going. Just let me know and I'll ask them.
