ACTIVITIES

I love the poker, but we could always start a tad later each day to give some time for the amazing activities?

ATVing I expect the Thursday crew to be smaller, and I could accommodate a few folks to go ATVing in the afternoon on Thursday. There's room for 6 of us (4 ATVs, but two of them seat 2). The area trails can be muddy and wet in May! :) But fun!

Fishing The lake has lots of fish, we have a few poles. Knock yourself out!

Kayaking/Paddleboarding. The lake is often mirror calm, and perfect for paddle sports!

Shooting There's a nearby free shooting range, and it's very nice.

MTBing There are amazing single track trails nearby. Lugging a bicycle here might be a challenge?

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Lots of bedrooms! 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and wifi in the northwoods (such a rare thing).

Here are some pics of the venue!

Food

Like the last couple years
, I will not be collecting set amounts to cover snacks and beverages for the weekend. I budget/spent around $20 per person, so donations towards snacks are appreciated, but I'm not going to be the snack police (not keeping track of who has contributed).

ALL FOOD IS TENTATIVE AT THIS POINT (these are just working notes, suggestions welcome).

Thursday
Grilling out (weather permitting)
Jamaican Jerk chicken and WI Brats (with all the fixins).

Friday
Lunch TBD
Dinner (Pizza from Home Slice)

Saturday
Lunch TBD
Dinner TBD

Snacks/Drinks
Will be on the house, but contributions welcome.

It's WI, so you know we will be doing brats at some point!!!

Lodging

The Lazy Bear Lodge sleeps 11 (sharing queen sized beds), but people can certainly bring air mattresses (I might have one or two as well). If we get over that, there's The Great Northern Motel which I just priced at $125/night for two queen beds. It's 5 minutes away, and houses one of my go-to restaurants in the area (The Wolf's Den Bar and Grill).

=============================================

Airport

I got no idea... Fly into Madison or Minneapolis? If you have your pilots license, there's a small airfield in Manitowish Waters, 15 minutes away.

=============================================

RSVP

I have vacation for the dates. But there's a lot that will go into making this happen. I essentially have to bring up an entire poker room and all food on the trip up... I think I have it figured out, but please don't book any expensive flights quite yet. Let's call this thread "exploratory" but I'm at 95% sure we can make this happen.

=============================================

Last event's awards... I will try to get something similar this year, but with a different theme.

Q- What kind of cool ‘meet-up” shwag will I get for coming to the MTTD?
A. There are tons of things in store, from a laminated ID badge to commemorative chips, and more. In short: Lots, but you’ll have to wait and see. See pic below.

Q- Will there be vegetarian meal options?
A. Yes, beer is made with barley and hops.

Q- Where would you recommend I stay?
A. The Lazy Bear Lodge (first come) or the Great Northern Motel

Q- I RSVP'd, how do I find out the address?
A- When we get closer, maybe late March or early May, I will PM everyone the event specifics, to include addresses, contact numbers, and last minute updates. FYI, for game safety, organizers (me) reserve the right to turn away those with very low post counts.

Q- What have previous MTTD’s been like?
A- Here are the links to the live blogs from the MTTD 2, MTTD 3, MTTD 4, and MTTD 5. When I attended my first meetup, it was reassuring to see the previous year's thread to know it was legitimate, safe, and worthwhile.

Put me in, coach, I’m ready to play! Happy to help with food/cooking, and a place to crash would be fantastic. Guest sets are an option too. Excited to see the place!

I'm pretty sure I can make it too, besides Forrest needs a co-pilot from Minneapolis.

I'm interested in coming up from MKE! I have an air mattress and plenty of guns and ammo to share with other shooters. Just need to get approval from the wife, but you can pencil me in if you'll have me.

I completely understand... When I attended my first meetup, it was the Windy City Blowout (in the outskirts of Chicago).

My wife was like "wait, you're wanting to go out of state, with a bunch of cash, and play poker in some dude's basement... that you met... online?" TBH, I was a bit nervous at first too...

LOL

But @Jeff had a bunch of previous WCB years events documented online, and it was comforting to see it was not some scam or shady in any way. Don't think of it as a poker game, it's just a poker themed party! :) Ha!

Sorry to hear your wife is not on board. If things change, let us know.

Beds are full, unless several guys wanna get cozy with each other in a queen bed. There is the futon and but I might have one air mattress (maybe). But nothing is guaranteed. If you have an air mattress you want to bring, there's floor space. Otherwise, the Great Northern Hotel is cheap and close (5-10 minutes away). I just priced out the event, and 3 nights total Room/Tax comes to around $350. That's like $175 each (or $60ea per night). Includes two queen beds, onsite restaurant, etc... :)

I'm in to anything you do ...but I'm in Europe then ... Lisa and I are scheduled to be cruising the Danube from the May 20th - June 3. This is the third (2022) rescheduling of our October 2020 trip :(.

Such a great meetup ideas...we can gamble, fish, shoot in the north woods. Fish frys at the supper club? Lac Du Flambeau isn't too far down the road too...

However, for those dates, no can do.

I’m interested but tentative for now, looks like a sweet locale for a meetup!
Sweet! Let’s work out trip plans as we get closer.

I’ve got many air mattresses from MinneMania, if someone needs one.

@Trihonda : congrats on your Powerball win! Pretty sure that was part of your meetup plans….

Wow! What a beautiful place for a meetup. God's Country! Unfortunately this is too close to my Iowa trip in early June, (family wedding) but is definitely on my radar for a future year since I travel to IA / MN / WI about 3 times a year. Good luck and run good!

My locals are shoring up their last minute RSVP’s. I’m starting to lock down food/meals/snacks/etc. I am finalizing main event structure..

@inca911 indicated he has a number of air mattresses. There’s lots of room on the floor but not exactly a lot of privacy unless you’re in a bedroom. And there’s a lot of windows and light that comes in early on the main upper level. Not ideal for sleeping in. I know a number of folks have arranged hotels nearby, and they’re very reasonable, but I’m happy to try to accommodate floor space for those wishing to sacrifice comfort to save a buck or two..

We do have seats open for last minute folks (we knew it was a hike to the northwoods, and harder for some to attend)…. But right now we should get two tables going. They might be ~6 players each at this point. But we might add some locals to the mix?

id also like to get some thoughts on what folks want to do, ATVing, shooting, biking, etc…?

fishing and lake activities are easy. The other things are excursions, with possible limits and some planning involved …

Hows the condition of lakes up there?
I'm scared our fishing trip to Woodruff 15th-20th may result in ice fishing or no bites with the colder water temps.
Leaves more time for cards tho if fishing sucks. Please save some floor space for a cot Saturday night for sure.

Oh man! Thanks for the tag! I reeeeeeeeaaalllllly need to start following the meetups that are being planned! I just picked up to cover at work that weekend, so I am sadly out for this year.

It looks like this is going to be a blast. That location looks amazing to boot!

If the Northwoods Edition proves to be a success, I’ll do my best to make the next one, and being a few pew pews to share as well.

PM's forthcoming to all attendees. Instructions, last minutes details, etc...!!! :)

Start thinking about excursions or activities. Some do take some preparation.
