I recently acquired this plaque. I asked the previous owner if they had any details on the origins of such a chip.

I know of no casino attached to actual Moulin Rouge in Paris. Is this likely a custom job?

Might be a casino by that name in Mississippi, but dunno if they ever issued plaques.

There was a famous Moulin Rouge in Vegas back in the day. It was the joint that Sammy Davis Jr. would frequent when racial segregation was a thing.

However there is about zero chance that plaque came from that casino. No denom makes me think it is either a sample or like you said a custom chip. Well done to whoever created it though, it's a great looking plaque.

I have heard of the old Moulin Rouge of Vegas. Didn’t know Sammy performed there so thanks for that bit of trivia.

Mind you the rat pack seemingly performed in just about every hotel at one point.

Is that a windmill on there? That might be a clue. Where do they have windmills?

the Integration of the euro symbol into the design makes it harder to see, but it’s there and prolly indicates a casino or custom owner that is someplace that spends euros. I love plaques as card cappers.

Yeah, that was the thing. They wanted Sammy to perform, but they wouldn't let him hang out. To unwind he had to go to the Moulin Rouge.

Yes back in those days Vegas was segregated so even though Sammy performed with the Rat Pack on the strip, he has to stay in a different hotel. There are many reports that Frank and Dean would go to Moulin Rouge to hang out with Sammy and would do impromptu performances for the guests.

The integrated euro € symbol is one of the nicer design flourishes I've ever seen. Clever, and well done imo. Kudos to the designer, whoever he was.

As someone who is French but speaks English like 75% of the time, I find it funny how Moulin Rouge sounds all classy in English. But in French it just means red windmill. Lol.

That is a beautiful plaque. I agree it is very well designed. Incorporating the euro symbol into the design is brilliant. I wonder what the rest of their lineup looks like.
