What type of poker chips are the most expensive? (clay, ceramic, plastic...etc)

I'm just trying to do some research on poker chips, before I try to resell them for a profit.

Definitely clay. There's also a small profit margin if you want to keep your retail prices comparable to others. Manufacturing in bulk helps lower your per chip cost but it's a gamble because your chips might not sell. I don't know much about customs duties or taxes when shipping to Canada but others on other sites have complained that it raises your costs quite a bit.

If by chance you're luck enough to get in on the right shipment of REAL casino chips from a vendor that was fortunate to get the chips as the casino went out of business, you might make some money. Such as Jim at TheChipRoom sold a set called the PCA's (Presidents Casino on the Admiral I think). Anyway, I bought a bunch and loved them, however being a poker chip addict I decide to sell them a couple years later to buy something else. FIRST time I'd ever actually made money on selling chips I think. 100% of the time any chip I purchased from a retail site that was a "fantasy" chip (made up casino name like "Pharaohs"), I'm lost money. I'm sure there are a few exceptions to that, but clays do hold their value more than ceramics from my experience.

I want to buy a really nice clay set sometime. I'm just waiting for a set to come up that catches my eye.

How 'bout the PCA's? (same story)

BCC T-mold Hot Stamps?

BCC Proteges ?

BCC Speakeasys?

Paulson World Shaped In-lays?

...so many choices, so little money..... :)

Thanks for the information. I don't need a big profit margin for poker chips, because it's not the only thing I plan on selling in my online poker store, but obviously a bigger profit margin would be better. I just don't want to lose money by selling poker chips.

Sounds like a good idea, but only if I won't lose money from it. I wouldn't mind breaking even, if it were to gain me some new customers, and possibly some returning customers. I don't expect the store to be the main source of income on my website, but if it is then that's great too.

What are you planning on selling in your store?
I want to sell a lot of poker gear like poker t-shirts(already have a few), poker hats, poker tables, chairs, poker chips...etc. I want to sell a bunch of poker stuff in the store. I plan on branding my logo on a lot of the stuff we're going to sell in our poker store, and having a few contests for freebies.
