I only start this thread because I'm curious if other have to deal with some of the same stuff when inviting other people into your home for a good time. Also, one of my regulars just sent me a text from of a pic of a $10 automatic card shuffler from Target The text was a pic of the shuffler and "Just sayin" UGH!!!
Here are some of my favorites/Most hated things people say, request.
#1 - "Do we really have to draw for seats? I want to sit here" Or "is it cool if I just sit next to my wife?" Or "friend"
What is peoples aversion to sitting next to someone they don't know at a poker table? I do this for security reasons and I tell them that, They just don't get it. They ask EVERY game!!
#2 - "dude these cards are too slippery!", "do we have to use these cards?" "I can't shuffle these man. Do you have any other cards?"
I use plastic setups, I have forever. they are nice, they last forever, I can wash them. I also tell them all of these reasons and still, nothing. They still ask EVERY game!!
#3 - The whole Auto shuffler thing. I'm not buying an auto shuffler!!! EVER!!!
Shuffling isn't hard, seriously. Just do it or stop coming over.
#4 - "This table is sooooo big. Are you going to build another smaller table?" "You should get another Smaller table for cash games."
Oh my god! I spent two weeks building this table, I love this table! I get the other table for cash games so people don't have to sit around watching everyone else still in the game play it down, But come on. At the very least have a little respect and appreciate the things people do for the benefit of others to enjoy themselves.
I have a couple more, but they are less abrasive to me so I won't even mention them. Am I just being a baby? Should I not take these things to heart? I go to great lengths to put a game on every month. I clean my home from top to bottom every game day, I spend $50-$60 on drinks and snacks for everyone to share every game, I have spent a lot of time building tables and acquiring chips and nice cards. I get that not everyone will understand these things, but it borders on disrespect in my opinion sometimes to ask some of these things of a guy who does all of this stuff just so you can come to my home and enjoy yourself here. Am I wrong? I don't get after people when they make these comments or requests, but it can change my mood.
I have seriously never got a compliment on my chips or cards. Most love my table, but I spend the money I do on chips and cards because I want people to notice them and appreciate them.
Please shut me down if I'm being way overly touchy about this stuff. I don't think I am. Also if you get it, feel free to vent here I need a little backup.
Sincerely,
Sad chip nerd with too much time on his hands
