Ok, so I'm putting together a Paulson cash set with the casino TH&C mold (scv, lcv is of no consequence although I think they're all scv anyway).
Problem is I have a rack of blue chips that can stand on edge, but they're not new enough for a 20 chip stack to line up equal to the other chips in the set. I have come up empty trying to find new enough chips that are blue.

My solution is to use the Paulson home suits mold (World TH&C) blue chips. All other chips are on the casino TH&C mold. The suits mold is the closest I could find.

Is this ok (in your opinion) or a major mistake? Of course, if anyone had some newer blue chips on the TH&C mold and wanted to sell them, that would be even better. I may post a want to buy ad in the classifieds but since I bought the Worlds, I'll wait till they get here and see for myself.

I feel like you already don't like the idea of it and that you're hoping someone will come along and tell you that it's perfectly fine, which it is as long as you're fine with it. I personally don't think I could do it, but that's me. If you are going to mix molds then this is probably as close as you'll get besides a RHC chip.

Are you looking for mint chips? Keep in mind that even mint chips will have slight differences in thickness. It's not just China clays that have this problem. It all comes down to personal preference and whether or not you can deal with having different molds on your table.

The best of luck in finding what you need.

The guys above are right. The Paris $1s would be sweet.

The Binion's $1s are pretty awesome too.

Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned I'm on a budget. Yes, I love the Paris $1's. Is it possible to buy a rack for less than $200? If anyone knows, please inform. I have a friend going to Vegas soon, but to get 100 chips, all in Very Good condition from the casino is not likely.
I do like to hear differing opinions, that's why I asked. I think if the worlds are the best I can do, I could probably live with it. No way I'm mixing RHC with TH&C molds. I am done with RHC chips... but that's a different topic.

I am with you there KZ... I think the Card Pip mold goes a lot better with the SCV than the RHC... They have the same inlay size, the same ring around the chip and they handle closer than the RHC, imo... I have some issues with the RHC as well, but as you said, that's a different topic... Only one comment about it though: not all RHC are the same in my experience, just look at how differently some of them age... So I'm not totally off the RHC yet as I really like some... :)

Yeah, it's not that easy to find the SCV in blue cheaply (the WTH&C are not cheap also!), but there's a few options around if you're not in a hurry, casinos and a few fantasy chips (FLV has one of the prettiest blue $1s around for example, impossible to find though)...

Are you relabeling the chips? The PCAs, for example, mix RHC and SCV using the same inlay design and the set is one of the prettiest around... So it's just a matter of making the set seamless...

I absolutely LOVE the Card Pip mold (I'm in a small minority here) and the $1s might be the prettiest chip on it (it's really dark though)... What I am thinking is if it's not a better option to put together a WTH&C set as opposed to use the $1s in a mix set... Just a though...

But as some have said, the set need to please you above all... If I loved a few other chips enough and needed a blue chips would I use the Card Pip mold, yes, I would... But honestly, I would rather have that $1, as I do, in a WTH&C or PCR set...

* Edited the post to correct the mistake pointed out by ovo.

Good suggestions from ChaosRock. The Worlds are getting very expensive too now and many are sold out. I've got the set almost complete and I do have blue TH&C chips. They are a little more used than all the others in the set but I may even use them. I bought a rack of the blue Worlds while I could. Oh and yes, I'm labelling the chips. Will post a mock up thread soon to get feedback on the design and I'll post pron when I get the chips together. Possibly a thread showing all the chips together to get opinions.

You might want to look at the Flamingo $1s as well. They were minty last year, and I suspect are still in good shape. For a relabel project. The whole rack should only cost $100, unless your friend is taking a little mark-up for himself.

There has been a lot of threads about this in the past since I joined in 2006, and I still can't bring myself to care, except when I want a set for only 1 casino in it.

IMO, I really feel that what make someone happy with their set is what really matters.

I am one hell of an "OCD Chipper" when it comes to cleanliness and condition of the chips in the set, but I have SCV/LCV /RHC/LHC ,older Leaded Chips with newer type Paulson's as well as some Home Hat & Cane Suited Paulson's in the same set.

It does not bother me in the least.

Just be a "HAPPY CHIPPER" !!!!!!

I forgot, it was 2006 when I joined CT.

When I had my secondary PCA set I thought this was going to drive me crazy. $5s, $25s, and $100s on the TH&C mold, $1s on the RHC mold, and hotstamped quarters on the four suits/pips (whatever the right name is) mold. I later added 2 racks of blue chip quarters on the RHC mold.

It never bothered me at all.

Just a note to Tommy (using this thread because it's quite relevant):

It's time to update the glossary. The above post has 7 abbreviations in it, but only 2 are in the glossary - and those 2 don't relate to the world of chipping. Just sayin, FWIW<that one is in there.

I believe the new Flamingo $1 is the solid blue (I'm pretty sure PZ Knew this) just to clarify which chip for others. Correct me if I'm wrong (I hope I am, because that means more of the spotted beauties are available)

I think the Paris or the Flamingo chips would work great.....and probably cheaper than the THC chips at this point.

As far as mixing molds.....it wouldn't bother me

mixing molds is fine, as long as they handle well together, unless it bothers you. The mold everyone refers to as Suits is actually Card Pip mold

I've never liked mixing molds.

Yeah, me either. Nothing really wrong with it, just not my cup of tea.

I don't even like mixing different inlays (smooth vs textured), even if on the same mold. I have one mixed-THC set with this problem; still looking for other $500's that mesh better.

I also have a rack of World THC T1000 chips on the card pip mold that I originally bought to use with my PCA secondary tourney set -- they've never seen the felt. And I sold all the PCA secondary $1 chips I had, mostly because they were RHC and I just didn't like how they fit with the rest of the PCA cash set (Casino Aztar secondary $1's ftw).

This is my chosen $1 for the Vegas harvest in July. I'm at Bally's so it's easy to hit the floor multiple times.

The only problem here is that my friend would get me 100 chips, but there's no telling what condition they'd be in. Unless you're wildly lucky to be there when new chips hit the floor, you're probably going to end up with poor condition chips for a buck each ($1's) that I could get from The Chip Room for 39¢. Dice 702 has some nice uncirculated chips, but they start at 1.99 each and the nevada chips website that also sold chips is not taking orders (his price was also $2 per chip). $1 per chip or less for very good condition chips is my budget, but recently I've paid up to 1.35 per for NEW chips and I only had to buy 100. My set is done but I'm just looking to replace my blue chips for some in newer condition which is why I was relegated to the Worlds with the pips mold. No, it's not my preference, but even at 1.35, it's the best I could do. I did bid on a rack of NEW LeCove $10's but got outbid. They went for like $185. So it's just about what I can afford and I've been pushing it putting together this set already, plus I'd still like to buy labels. I probably should have not undertaken this project at all, but .... It's a sickness. See here: http://www.pokerchipforum.com/showthread.php/4647-Why-do-i-keep-doing-this-!!!!!

Completed all chips on the casino TH&C mold. Now I don't have to mix molds! :)
Thanks for the comments.

I'm going to target three places, Binion's, Paris, and another downtown I can't remember from my notes. If the condition is very poor then I'll go a different route. I'd rather have chips with the correct mold.
