I'm helping my buddy John run a Charity event tomorrow night for this young lady. I've never met her. I know her father (from a baseball road trip) so I am excited to meet her.

I'm not looking for any additional donations or anything. That's why this is in the off topic thread. I just wanted to share that there are still a lot of great young people in the world.

Enjoy the letter.

John is the friend of mine that bought the Zombies from me. I'm excited to get to play with them again. Speaking of John. Last weekend he woke up with a detached retina. He was supposed to have surgery on TUE but that was canceled. Hence my offer to run the tourney/cash for him. I'm the driver so I won't be drinking anyways.

I'll post some pictures of the game/chips.

I'll have the pleasure of playing with @mike32 .

Message from Jordan:

Freshman year I was given the amazing opportunity through my high school, Saint Catherine of Siena Academy, to go on my first mission trip to the Dominican Republic. I was honestly so nervous to be going on a mission trip, but I was also extremely excited for what lay ahead of me. (For anyone that knows me, you know how nervous I can be, so this was a huge step for me). I set off with my dad on a trip I won't soon forget! When I was preparing for my first trip I had the idea in my head that I was going to go to the DR and I was going to change their world, little did I know God would give me a reality check and the people of the Dominican would be the ones who changed my life forever.

When I got to the DR my heart immediately filled with joy and happiness. Being surrounded by so much happiness, faith, and love made my heart swell. I remember picking up a baby at the medical clinic on the border of Haiti and being the only one allowed to touch him because at the time I was the only person that had made contact with him and they found that he had a skin condition; upon hearing that my dad got nervous and wanted me to put him down but I wouldn't. I didn't care that he may make me sick, all I knew was that he needed to be held and that he needed to be loved.

I went back my junior year and traveled without my dad. I was so excited to be getting back to the place that I call my home away from home! It felt so amazing to touch down in Santo Domingo and all I felt was excitement, I was no longer nervous and I was ready to get on the bus and get through the 7 hour trek to Elias Piña. I bonded with more children, colored more pictures with them, found more sick kids, and helped with the elderly.

Following graduation and before I start college I am going back to my home away from home to be reunited with the people that quickly turned from strangers to family. This time I have an opportunity to stay for up to eight weeks. Having seen how much I can do to help in just the week-long trips I have taken I am very excited about the ability to serve in such an extended capacity. However, in order for me to do this it will require financial resources that are beyond a graduating senior’s means. I have humbly asked for support from friends and family, and I am so touched that Uncle John has agreed to help me by sponsoring a poker event for me and including his friends in the effort.

It is such a blessing to be able to serve God’s people. I thank Him every day for having put the DR in my life and giving me an opportunity to praise Him through my work. I am so excited to be going back in June for the summer and I am so thankful for all the prayers and help along the way! I am so blessed to finally find out what God intended for my life.

"I am blown away that my God, who could do this all by Himself, would choose to let me be a little part of it."

God bless,

Jordan

Jordan sounds like a wonderful young woman. Best wishes to her on her extended stay in DR, speedy recovery to John, and to you for graciously running this tournament. I wish I was in the area in order to play.
