First off this isn't poker related as I didn't put in any hours in the poker room for this trip.

Backstory- we have a secret santa for our extended family every christmas and this year I got my brother-in-law and myself a hotel for the night at MGM (Fox Tower) and tickets to see the Dan Band (most famous for the Old School wedding band) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc-BSxo_fmA)

So our intentions were to casually drink and play a majority of blackjack and some other table games. He just had his first baby so this trip was intended for him and for me to make sure he enjoyed himself (so I wouldnt put in any poker volume because thats not a social game for 2 people)

If I have any intentions in the future of going to Foxwoods simply to play pit games/blackjack etc. I would NEVER go back to foxwoods on a Friday or Saturday ever again. It took us over an hour on 2 different occasions throughout the night to find 1 SINGLE open seat in blackjack. It was insane.

Has anyone else experienced this lately? Wanting to basically give your money away and they wont take it?

Quick rundown

Arrive 3pm, check-in and settled into the room by 3:30pm

Walk around the MGM (Fox Tower) to find open seats at BJ....nothing open

Walk towards the Grand Pequot Casino...no open seats

Walk towards Great Cedar...no open seats

Walk towards Rainmaker, 1 open seat and I let my bro in law sit. By the time we sat it was 4:40ish. We had reservations for David Burke at 5:30

Dinner lasted until 7pm. At this time, we went back to the room to drop our sweatshirts off, get some extra cash, etc

Show was at 8pm. Show ended at about 10ish.

Since we were staying in the MGM (Fox Tower) we decided it might be best to try to find some seats at BJ there so we wouldnt have to walk as far to go to our rooms.

Needless to say this happened again.

No seats in MGM, No seats in pequot, no seats in great cedar. Found one open seat and this time I sat.

This is where things get VERY interesting. The dealers name was Maurice, he was a white, at least 65 yr old miserable fuck. When we got to the table, the players were complaining about him. Telling me I should try to find a different table.

This exact interaction happened (at a $15 min bet table)

Sit down
Bro-in-law standing behind me playing on his phone
Dealer screams at him to put it away (even though he was not at the table)
Dealer asks if we are working together
Dealer asks to see me ear, to see if I am wearing an ear piece
I said verbatim "Yes, I decided that of all the tables in Foxwoods to sit at a $15 min bet table and wear an ear piece to cheat"
Another player at the table asks the dealer "Dude, are you fucking retarded?" (defending me because this was so absurd)

At this point I was so fed up, after only playing about 5 hands, I got up and attempted to find a new table.

Heres my summary:
-Foxwoods poker room is still top notch from all the times I've played there, If you are just going to play cards; this is the place to go
-if you are attending Foxwoods on a Friday/Saturday night and have expectations to go with friends and find tables to play together, your chances of finding this is very unlikely
-The crowd was a VERY young crowd. I think that the clubs within Foxwoods attract a very young crowd because from what I hear, they are the best clubs around by far.
-Next time I want go with buddies and my location does not matter due to the Band, I would go to Mohegan

So question for everyone, have they experienced this at Foxwoods? Other casinos? Typically on Fri/Sat nights?
There were HOARDS of people waiting for tables, you would think pit bosses would pick up on this and open additional tables...or be prepared for it.

eeeemmeediately lost all interest. :(

But I read the TR anyway, and it was very interesting. Loved the story about the BJ dealer from hell. Sucks you had to go through that!

Yeah but the "women of the night"...;) j/k. I haven't been to Foxwoods in a few years, but I remember waiting and waiting for black jack tables back then. IIRC grabbing a table before dinner was fairly easy...4 friends and I sat down all at the same table and played for hours just us. But later than say 7 it was very hard to find an open seat.

Since it opened in the early 90's I've only experienced tough seat availability on Friday/Saturday nights. I don't think this is new, its just a suck unless you want $25+ per bet. I'm kinda lol'ing at the $15 min bet because its always been $5 or $10 then after say 6pm you'll usually only find $25+ tables while they keep ONE or just more than one $10 min table. Clearly the economy has now demoted some of the $25 tables but instead of doing $10 min like a normal person they elect to squeeze the extra $5 at $15. I don't play blackjack enough to know how the patterns have changed (if they've changed) over the last 10-15 years but it sounds like exactly the same as when they're doors opened in '92'ish. I remember being there when Holyfield was fighting someone in 2000'ish and the min tables were raised to $100 as the hours led up to the fight. We were just there by chance and were WTF at table avail. Sorry to hear it.

The dynamic was so strange. There were no tables open..I didnt mean we couldnt find the $15 min table. We couldnt find a $25 or $50 min...nothing was open.

I also saw about 5 tables that had no min at all. You could bet $1 and I saw the floor allow people to play multiple spots...it was outrageous. As an example I walked by one specific no min table. There were only 4 players at it, 2 players were playing 2 hands...each of those players were playing $1 per hand. It was absolute garbage that the floor didnt say anything when people were literally getting in arguments about who had next available seat at some tables.

Wow that is totally bizarre. Crazy tables.

Isn't it stupid that in the poker room they run a list but for other table games you have to fight for your own seat. Can you imagine having to line up behind someone at a poker table and wait for the seat to open up?
