So I've decided to set up a milling station. Pretty pleased with first attempt. Not sure how deep to go tho. Anyone have any extra labels they don't need to experiment with?
 
Yes, you are looking for laminated. :)

IMO half of the point of milling a chip is to smooth or remove the hotstamp; the other half is to make enough depth to accommodate a laminated label.

The second pic looks a little too deep (although too deep is better than too shallow.)

Ya that's why I was gonna grab a few labels to see where I need to be. Thanks for the info Gear.
 
just a tip. when the time comes to mill the other side you'll have to slip a dime in to the milled out center. Reason being pressure combined with the heat generated is going to push that thin center into a concave that actually expands and doesn't contract.
