Hey guys,

I'mot sure where to put this so I'll leave it here but my question is:
When a casino is shut down, what is the process for liquidation of their chips? Who has access? Or does it all depend on the owners/bank and what they want to do?
Would there be any opportunity for a group buy? Or do you just have to hit the third party re-sellers? Can private individuals purchase directly or do you need a representative?

I always wondered about how people get fantastic sets from closed casinos, and at what cost.

Here is the link about the MGM acquisition and closing of Empire City: https://www.onlinepokerreport.com/34800/ny-gaming-commission-mgm/

Thanks,
Mac

Think it’s a NYS VLT (video lottery terminal) and doesn’t have table games.

What kinda chips do they have over there? Chipguide does not have any listed

I probably should have done a bit more research, but it turns out Empire City only has slots and virtual table games, no poker and no live tables thus probably no chips. The MGM acquisition is more to get their foot into NY near New York City and allow for them to expand and gain licenses to bring live tables games, poker and online poker to entire state.

Nonetheless, when a casino WITH chips closes, how do people get the chips?

From Jim @ The Chiproom Sales!

I've also always wondered about how to get in on the closing casino chips. Is it done by auction? Any tips?

MGM bought it and speculation is that mgm is pushing the nys politicians toward table games and online poker, leading eventually to live poker. Nys politics tho pass an online poker bill every year, then it doesn’t get voted on in the assembly. Cuomo hasn’t had an opinion on poker at all live or online but is in favor of sports betting. Who knows I poker will ever happen in NY

Every State is different. I know in New Jersey and in Pennsylvania the casinos are not allowed to resell the chips. All the chips must be destroyed. It doesn't mean that some people might not be able to sneak some out. In NJ once a casino closes and you have chips from that casino you can go to the State Gaming commission to cash in your chips. In PA I know for a fact after a Pit Boss at the Wind Creek told me that since the Sands switched owners and was renamed to Wind Creek you have one year to cash in your Sands chips. A lot of the casino chips I'm seeing on here for sale are from the Midwest or South and a lot of California and Washington.
