Down in the DC area for the weekend and checked out the new MGM property. Certainly was nice. My first time in a casino outside of Atlantic City and it didn't disappoint. It was nice to be in a property that's only 8 months old. I can imagine it's what Revel in AC was like...until it flopped big time.

That being said...I will most likely never return. Got my ass handed to me in 1-3 NL and roulette. I've learned to never sit down with less than $200 at 1-3 cause I went broke on $120 in less than an hour. Got 2 hands the whole time (AKs and KQo) and raised in late position both times with no callers. And both came in my first 10 hands. After that...nothing. Completely cold cards. I think I had 23o 3x in about 8 hands. And when I had something like A9s the flop would be terrible. One time I had A9 and had 9s on the flop but the dude either had something better or bullied me off the hand with a $200 bet and he knew my measley $90 stack was folding. Roulette I did well for maybe 3 spins then lost it all. It was not a good day. Poker room was packed. I've never seen as many players in any AC casino...including Borgata. And I've been there during WPT events

Still...nice property. Definitely has that new feel to it. I brought back five $1 chips if anyone needs one or a few. Willing to sell four of them.

Competition is much tougher there at MGM than any other casino I've been to. Even at the lowest stakes at 1-3, most of the people at the table knows what their doing. If you play 2-5 or higher, you are playing with some very skilled pros. Table selection is a must at that casino

This x1000. Not to mention that it's very expensive to play there on the weekends. I was card dead at 1-3 so I racked up to go play craps and the tables started at $25 and up! Nice venue, but you need a serious bankroll if you want to play there.

Although I have never been, my last trip to Maryland live(end of May) people told me the exact opposite. At the 2-5 tables they said MGM was far softer and they were only playing at live for the huge high hand bonuses. I actually thought the Live 2-5 game was quite soft, so i cant imagine how good the other games were supposed to be.

That being said table selection is always important. I have played at 1-2 games that were far more difficult than some 5-10 games. If you dont feel it after you have been sitting for a little while just ask for a table change.

Yes Maryland Live 2-5 is usually quite soft because a lot of the pros there are now stationed at MGM.
As for bankroll at MGM, if your playing 1-3, then you don't need too much as most people generally buy in for $300 but at 2-5, you need some serious dough as a lot of people buy in max with $1k

But yeah def a nice property. They just need to add more tables to accommodate the long lines

I will be there in a couple weeks, hope to get in some pai-gow time, and pocket a few chips.

My table wasn't too rough...just one guy two seats to my right who clearly was the bully and knew it. Plus I was completely card dead. Going back in November and I'll see how it goes then.

I have heard play is weak from reading several places online. I suppose it is table dependent, so choose wisely. I can't make their Potomac Poker Open event, but they have two major tournament events next year, so I am assuming one in spring. Looking forward to details about that.

damn, now I need to see if I can get into a tournament (I would never accidentally drop a chip in my pocket during a table change).

I dropped by yesterday (Sat night) for a little bit, place was busy, tables were full, and I saw on the poker room they had a $25/$25 with no limit buy in mixed game, and 7 or 8 people on the wait list.

I wanted to play pai gow, so after a MyVegas $1 cocktail (martini) at Felt, I went to the only $25 min pai gow table as all the rest were $50 min. It had a progressive bonus that is $5 and fortune bonus $5 a and up, so it is $35 min per hand if you place all bets to get envy bonus.

About an hour in, i am down $150ish, and I proclaim "i want to be envious, or i hope it is me. You get 7 cards, the first four I peel off are J10AKs, then 10c then Qs! Woots!

Then they raised the limit 5 hands later, was time to take the win. Also, no free drinks for players :(
