Hey guys. I'm new (joined a few weeks back) and I have such a newb question I thought I'd leave it here in the forum. The two MGM grand quarter chips... I understand the one to the left is the first one or Gen 1 or out of circulation correct? the one to the right... Is it still live? Can be harvested? What's a rack going to set me back? Detroit's actually not far from me. What games would net a good harvest of quarters? Anyway... help me understand. the quarter looks nice and could go in my cash set. Can you relabel an oversized label like this? Trying to understand if this is even a good candidate for murder.

From what I understand, they are difficult to harvest (not many on the floor, employees are instructed not to give them out freely). Maybe the Detroit folks can confirm.

A rack of them will typically set you back about $300 or so in the classifieds here.

I've seen some racks of the first edition (left pic) but can't figure out why the Live chips arn't at least double the price since they are live? Least tripple the cost like $150 a rack or so? I'd be fine with a live rack.

at $300 per rack, the live chips would be priced 12 times their face value... if that's true I may go try and harvest some.

The difficulty in harvesting is what sets the price. $5 chips are generally very easy to harvest because you can just buy racks from the cage and nobody will bat an eye. $1 chips get a little more difficult. Quarters are already rare for a casino to have, and they are generally watched very closely because they cost the casino significantly more than face value to purchase.
As far as murder goes, it's doable but not recommended. I did a test awhile ago, here's a pic of the result:

I could live with it, but the larger the inlay goes the worse it gets.

$25. Good luck!

Ah ya... you end up with a debossed edge at the edge of the old label. Ya that's ideal... Ok, Question answered. no murdering going on here. I still want them for a mixed label set. Thx.

Would also be fairly light as oversized inlay chips generally are light due to the labels displacing more chip material.

Hey new guy! I spent a lot of time acquiring the v2 fracs and it wasn't easy. I tried asking locals to harvest them, but everyone said it was too difficult to obtain decent quantities in good shape. For example, one chipper lost $300+ playing Pai Gow to get 7 fracs. I just ended up buying them whenever I saw an ad posted, which was also fairly rare. I now have 4 racks of fracs at an average cost of $3.50/chip.

Confirming at least $300/rack via PCF for excellent condition racks. (Not for sale.)

FYI, Greektown and Motor City fracs are equally awesome and costly.

I've owned several racks of casino-issued spotted Paulson quarters over the years:

RHC:
- Blue Chip
- Motor Ciy
- MGM Grand Detroit
THC:
- Miccosukee
- Horseshoe Southern Indiana
- Harrah's Reno
House molds:
- Four Queens Pai Gow

Two from Indiana, two from Michigan, two from Nevada, and one from Florida.

None were cheaper than $300, even 10-15 years ago. Even my racks of Nevada quarter hot-stamped THC solids (Railroad Pass, Virgin River) were priced similarly.

Most sell now for between $400-$600 per rack.

Thanks for the advise man. I'll keep my eyes open. I mean relabeling off brand fracks has almost a diminishing return when it comes to investment right? If I could just get fracks for my set at $5 a chip slowly when they become available then I'd rather do that over paying inflationary prices for MGM that don't fit the set at same or higher cost than the fracks I'd rather have. Seems there's polarized opinions on the price from those harvesting and offering VS actual sold racks. Glad you were able to scoop some up for 3.5. thanks for the message.

It can be done but it's tough. I did a bunch of them. Over 200 in a few visits but was intercepted by managers and threatened with banishment. No kidding.
And I wouldn't want to go back to that place. The dealers are fucking miserable, the food way over priced. To play, just go to Motorcity or head to Caesars in Windsor. A way better experience.

I’m actually in Grand Rapids MI. Maybe I should research the best harvests in GR
