Anyone know anything about Marilyn's Celebrity Casino chips? Spokane, WA casino closed in 2005, before a lot of us were in the game. Are any of these known out there?

Only asking because I just snap bought a rack of each of these:

I'll update pr0n when they arrive.

@jldecarlo has a set of these and I know there was at least one other CT member who had put a set together. Really beautiful chips imo. In particular the $1s and $5s work together perfectly.

What? I hate you! There is a huge set out there from the chiptalk days. They are great looking chips. Congrats.

Interesting. I've never seen these before. Maybe my grandfather knows a bit. He's a big casino guy and Marilyn fan, soooooo...I'll have to ask.

From memory there's a pretty big set of these owned by former CT'r Spike who lives in Melbourne.

Don't think he made the jump here of was on CT for a while before it died.

Always thought it was a pretty cool set, but never understood why a casino would brand itself like this. Someone must have been a pretty big fan.

I also seem to remember that the top ones are "rare" since they used the image and name without permission. There was a threat of a lawsuit, hence the removal of the picture and just using the name "marilyn's", but I think this was all resolved when the cruise, like most others, went bankrupt pretty quickly.

Struck out with gramps ... he's never been to Washington state since he got out of the service back in the 40s. So much for that idea! But he did add that he's not surprised at the unauthorized angle since there was (and continues to be) a lot of items, ventures and establishments claiming affiliation. During her heyday intellectual property and celebrity likeness rights weren't as developed as they are today. In fact she is considered by some to be a bit of a trailblazer in that regard because of the aggressive (at times when it was convenient for her) stance taken to protect her likeness.

Update: So the seller was spike_woo who had some nice pr0n of these over on CT. He agreed to sell me the remainder of his chips from this collection. All told there were 1002 left. The breakdown is pretty good. Sadly, he didn't have or didn't offer any $25s. I'm happy to preserve these as a set and help spike out as well. There is a commemorative $5 which I'll use as a frac or $25. I'll post some pics when they come in.

I feel very fortunate to be able to keep these together and grateful to spike for allowing me to do so. These are some of spikes old CT photos:

Sounds like you're getting a good, unique collection. If the set interests you pull the trigger now. Given the relative scarcity of this particular set should you pass might find yourself full of regrets later even if you ultimately decide to relabel. Worst case you decide it's not working for you then you've got options for unloading. You can always break up a large set to sell in pieces, but you can't take a small set and sell it as a large set.

Beautiful. Dibs if you ever move them.

and I could use one of the GO chips, a $25 and a $100 for my WA State collection... just sayin. :)
