When I first got into this fantastic hobby, I purchased a bunch of Spirit Mold CCs from Chips and Games. I had this notion I was going to make my first custom chips out of them…something good enough for my home game and memorable enough for players to enjoy the novelty of it all.

I am working from a meager budget (and since I paid next to nothing for cheap CCs, I didn’t want to break the bank to get them labeled).I did my research (using the search function**) and found an affordable place to get labels made: Sticker Mule. Gear was too expensive for this low-rent project and the wait was a bit too long anyhow. I will definitely be going with Gear for my next project: RHC relabels, but I digress.

I spent far too long trying to settle on a design. I worked with a buddy of mine (graphic designer) to design something 100% unique, but I never *loved* the final product. All the while, I began taking some of the tutorials in Adobe Illustrator and got comfortable enough to make something I am happy with: the Dunes Tribute pictured below. Going with “Buck’s Card Room” to keep it simple and because my last name is Buckles.

So, to keep the outlays manageable, I have been buying the labels on denom at a time. I started with the $500 because I only had a few purple chips and my home game never gets that speedy anyways. Good learning experience. As you can see, the label is a bit too small for the recess in the chip. I had measured with a ruler in bad lighting and though 1” would be fine and would save me some money by not getting a “custom” size sticker made. I was wrong. Turns out it isn’t that much more pricey to get custom-sized 1.11” labels made..only a couple bucks more. So, when I ordered the $5 labels, I made the change and am much happier with the result.

Getting the diameter a bit bigger also allowed me a little leeway in the design itself, so the actual design is slightly different on the $5 - lighter weight on the denom, spacing a bit better on the actual golf hole design and lettering…but the rest of the set will be consistent with that $5 design.

These are the only ones I have completed so far. Ordering the $1s and .25s next week. Looking forward to my next game.

Side note: I am currently planning on using yellow chips for my $100. If anyone has some black spirit molds, 8Vs, or the key design that they are willing to get rid of, I am buying. Need a barrel or so.

Any questions, feedback, suggestions, constructive criticism, etc. is VERY welcome.

Looking great so far! Absolutely love the dunes theme.
I love the nostalgia of the older casinos. And when you learn the Bellagio is what is there now, it has some extra appeal. And I love golf almost as much as poker. So this was really a win-win for me!

Thanks for the compliment!

Ditto on the nostalgia and love for golf. Was playing golf long before poker (even semi-seriously). One of the courses I grew up playing on was named “Great Dunes”, always that it’d make a really cool set. Might have to take influence from what you’ve done here if I ever get around to making that set with the other 100 ideas I have floating around for other sets. Golf and Poker just seem to go together. Sorta like whiskey with both.
