Is that a dust mite on the pink spot?
.....see if you can get a close-up

Thanks. i'll look at those. Maybe more $ than i want to spend for a casual camera (yeah i know, you get what you pay for).

Was hoping there may be a $1k or under one that suits my needs. So many out there, tough to wade through all the reviews.
You can easily find the older models for a lot less coin, and they take the same lenses. Yes, they have slightly less features/specs, but they are still amazeballs. For example, I have the X-T1, which has been supplanted by the X-T2. The T1 version can be found for very cheap. And the lenses...oh, man, the lenses.

Looking at getting a dedicated macro lens for chip and watch photography, i have a Canon 70d so was initially looking at the Canon EF 100mm f2.8L IS USM but also the Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 USM, I know the L lens is overall a better lens and can get the shots from further away but for closeup indoor stuff do you think it’s really worth double the cost of the 60mm?

The challenge is going to be light because you will be so close to your subject. If that's not an issue, then a 60mm macro is perfectly fine indoors.

Im a part time photographer so I have a Pentax K1 and a 100mm macro that I use for chip pictures. I have not been taking many really close images but it makes great for detailed work.

I tried an achromatic macro filter lens on my standard zoom lenses once, and it sucked hard.
Now got a dedicated, proper 1:1 macro lens. Combine with hi-res sensor and boom!

My second focus stacking experiment - 10 individual images combined. Resolution: 8254x5502 px
Could focus about five centimeters closer with that lens for even bigger zoom.

Pretty old thread, but nothing has changed. Attach a macro lens to just about any dslr on a tripod with decent light and you will improve your pics 1000% easily. You do have to have some equipment, but it doesn't have to cost a lot to get great pics. I just took these with a Canon 40D & macro lens and light & lightbox. You could buy pre-owned but working great:
Canon 40D =< $100
Canon f 2.8 100 macro (non is) =< $200
Tripod, Lights & Lightbox =< $100
Total $400
I took them, no cropping, no post processing, nothing. Just uploaded them and boom - nice pics
