Would love to get a set that has denominations of 50c $1 $2 $5 $10 and $25/50. seems like a lot of clay sets are hard to find in 50c, $2 and $10 chips. i have seen a lot of chips online such as the poker knights from clay-smith but hard to find casino quality clay in these denominations. anyone have recommendations?

I'm new here and don't have a good answer. But I would NEVER get a $2, $10 or $50 chip. They're just redundant IMHO.

Most on here are of the opinion you don’t need a $2, 10 or 50 (unless building a limit set around that particular chip).

Are you looking for a cash set, a tournament set, or an all purpose set that could do both?

There's a very good reason you don't often find $2, $10, and $50 chips in casino-quality sets -- they simply aren't needed.

No matter what you choose, get samples first.

Posted a comment somewhere on a similar topic. Buddy of mine plays more than the rest of the group I play with and used to abide by the same principle. It’s a limit chip, a bitch to count up, is already covered by $1 denom, etc. When we played with my new Garden City cash set at the time, I insisted we throw in some $2s just for fucks. We haven’t dropped them since. Sure it’s redundant, but at the end of the day you play with what you love, and I love me some $2s. They just happen to have some of the best designs and represent the best color!

exactly. they aren't necessary but we just always played with them and are used to it. could cut them out but if we find a great set would love to keep them. is that garden city set from apach poker? i emailed them these waiting to hear back

Hello and welcome!

Don't bother with $2, $10, and $50. If you're playing a cash game of 0.50/1, you won't need any of those. It's your choice whether you want a $25 or $20. To stretch your buying dollar, get an efficient a set as possible. Good luck in your search, and get samples when you can before making the big investment.

If those are really what you want I feel like the best way to go is with relabels. But yeah I would have to agree with the redundancy and non necessity unless you switch between .50/1 and 2/4 or something and are willing to buy a larger set.

Totally agreed and yep a portion of that set was from Apache. Never intended to use those $2s originally but they’ve been a staple in our games since!

For that matter, if you’re playing.50/1, you could skip the fracs, and play 1/1. Of course, then you wouldn’t get to have cool fracs on the table. But by that logic, if the 2’s and 10’s are cool, you might as well have them. :D

If I were you, I'd find the set you like even if it doesn't have the denominations you want. And then you can do relabels for the odd denominations.
1) It doesn't restrict the sets you can look at, since the values you're looking at are a bit obscure.
2) Gives you something to hunt for and personalize over time. It'll be 100% unique to your game and will be EXACTLY what you want.

check out the stock sets from classicpokerchips.com. though I agree with everyone else here that they are unnecessary, I'm sure David would make the odd denoms for you. relabels using @Gear labels are also a solid option.

You might be used to it, but that doesn't mean it's the best way to do it. Think of it this way... if you really want all of those denoms, then you'll be buying more chips, which means more up front money/investment. And if you ever go to resell/offload your set, you'll have a hard time finding a buyer for those obscure denominations (since most people don't need/want/use them).

Why don't you need $2s? Because you already have $1s on the table, and 2x$1 chips = $2.
Why don't you need $10s? Because you already have $5s on the table, and 2x$5 chips =$10.

didn't mean to offend the mathlete over here. every game has a different dynamic. my game grows throughout the night and and having 2's and 10's is where we end up with half the piles of chips. If i was worried about what most people want i wouldn't be asking on recommendations on how i piece together what i want.

No offense taken.

Less chips just means less work for most players in adding up pots... in a .25/.50 game, most players can look at a pot of a few fracs, some $1s and $5s and sum it up in a few seconds. Similarly, in a $1/$2 or $1/$3 game, most players used to casino play can add up the red and green chips ($5s and $25s) rather quickly with a quick glance. If you start adding in $0.50s, $2s and $10s, with already existing $0.25s, $1s, $5s, and $25s, you're only creating more work for everyone involved (players, host, bank, etc.).

But hey - if you dig it, then so do I! And hell... who doesn't love MOAR CHIPS!?! :wow::D

The problem is that you will have a VERY hard time finding $2, $10, and $50 original casino clays. You'll likely have to go semi-custom with overlabels or inlay replacement.

Looks like what you need is a Horseshoe Gardena set.
