Hello fellow poker chip newbie!
After reading your posts I wanted to throw in my two cents from one new member to another.
But here's "the bottom line"
advice: Buy 1 rack (which is 100 chips) of Jack Cincy $5 chips from TheChipRoom.
That's it. Just do that to get your started.
Full disclosure, I bought Jack Cincy as my first chips from
@TheChipRoom and was extremely pleased. And TheChipRoom is a world-class vendor. I placed my order Sunday night and they were in the mail Monday morning.
Here's why I recommend this course of action:
- You already said that you wanted to get Cincinnati Jack chips or any other chips of similar quality. So, why not just get them?
Cincinnati Jack $5 chips are the least expensive "casino quality" chip you can buy right now.
100 of the $5 chips will cost you less than $70 including shipping if you live in the continental US (CONUS).
- 100 chips is enough to play a heads-up tournament where both players each have 50 chips. Or a 4 player tournament where each has 25 chips. etc.
100 chips is also more than enough to get a feel for how they play, stack, and shuffle (if you know how to shuffle chips).
- Jack Cincinnati chips are made by Paulson. A company owned my "Gaming Partners International" (GPI). If you played in a casino in the United States, chances are likely they were using Paulson chips. About 90%-95% of Casinos in the USA use Paulson.
All Paulson chips regardless of the mold they were stamped in, and the colors used to make them, more-or-less "feel" the same when using/stacking them. (Newbs won't be able to tell any difference.)
- Jack Cincy chips come from and were used in a real casino. So they're the "real" thing. Some people say other chips are "as close are you're going to get to real," but in this case, Jack Cincy chips are actually "real."
The casino was named Jack, but they got bought out, and the new owners wanted to use the name "Hard Rock" instead, so they had to get all new chips and decided to sell the old ones. TheChipRoom bought a truck load (literally) of these old chips and then sold them on this forum. This is also why they are so cheap (especially the $5 chips).
- Since these chips were used in a casino, they are going to be slightly worn and look used. This will bother some collectors. But if you actually want to play your chips, it might be better to get used because they are already "broken in." Of course this is all purely personal opinion and the only way to find out if you like new or used better it to actually buy both and see for yourself.
To sum up, the Jack Cincy $5 chips are:
"Real" casino chips, cheap but used, readily available if you want more.
Here's how to get them:
Go to this forum post.
This is the "official" TheChipRoom Jack Cincinnati sales post.
Scroll down until you see "$5 Jack Cleaned" and click on the link. (See the screen shot of where to click.)
View attachment 791623
"Cleaned" is the only $5 chip still available, the $1 chips and the $5 used are sold out.
When you click the link, it will open the PayPal website and show you a shopping cart. Adjust the quantity of chip to the amount you want (I recommend 100 to start).
And simply "check out" using the PayPal website. You'll have your chips in less than a week (in conus).
After you get your first rack of chips, you can stack them, get a good idea for how they feel and play. If you like them you can then consider adding more $5 chips or going all-in for the 900 chip set that TheChipRoom offers.
This is what I did and the 900 set makes for a great cash game set (even micro stakes if you count $5 as 5¢) or as tournament set. To get them, scroll down further in the same post and click the 900 chip set link.

These sets are the only way to get the other dollar denominations ($1, $25, $100, $500) from TheChipRoom that I know of because all the other links result in "sold out" on the PayPal website. (Or you can place a wanted ad for other denoms and try to buy from other forum members.)
I hope this will help you get started, and if you want to read about how I got started on this forum and my first purchase, you can
read all about it here.
