Let's talk about sunglasses at the table (2 Viewers)

I see no problem with wearing sunglasses, wearing hoodies, or listening headphones. If you're going to play for 6 to 8 hours you should play as comfortable you prefer.

I 'd rather dim the lights if deemed too strong or turn the music down low, than allow sunglasses, earplugs or anything that impedes communication and hence shows disrespect to other people, IMO.
It's a people's game, and people should respect each other by at least being available for communication, even as complete strangers.
By the way, in my game I demand all action (bets and raises) to be verbally announced, and what you say or hear is binding of course.

o_O

What if what I say isn't them same thing as you hear?
You say "pardon me, I didn't hear you" if you haven't heard. If you misheard, I guess the dealer of the hand and the majority can determine if someone mispronounces or somebody else mishears.

Curious rule. I don't think I've ever heard of this anywhere aside from your game.

By "demand," do you mean it's actually a rule that's enforced, or you just personally demand/expect it?

Yeah, it's a house rule and people really like it, since it excludes any misunderstandings.

But if you say "Raise" (and are bound by your statement) and I mistakenly (though unknowingly) hear "Call" and table my hand, what then? Are you bound by what you said, or what I heard?

I am sure you said, "Call" so "pardon me, what was that?" isn't even on my radar.

Seems to me, one or the other can be binding but they can't both be. There are situations where mistakes can happen.

If your going to go to the table or the dealer for what was really said (no one can objectively tell me what I heard), then why not just make verbal binding? If there is confusion between what is said and what is heard, then what is said controls...

True, but that's not a particularly realistic example. However, when one player mumbles "ALL-in" and another hears "cALL" and immediately tables his hand, it's a perfect example of an unintentional mistake (made by the second player, btw). I've actually seen this happen several times in live play. Also why I never reveal my cards until instructed to do so by the dealer.

What somebody hears is irrelevant, and having a rule that specifically addresses it is totally unnecessary. What somebody says is gospel.... and binding.

Home games and small stakes? No glasses.
Big bright room tournaments? Acceptable.
Headphones? Small buds are ok.
Lets face it. If youre playing premium hands, youre sitting idle a lot. It prevents me from playing too many hands from boredom. It also helps to focus on players body language bc their talk noise is filtered out.

But those big Beats cans and similar headphones are a bit much at a table.

For me personally, I can't wear headphones at the table because I like to hear everything that's going on. If I do have headphones in however, their usually just ear buds and there's no music playing.

As for wearing sunglasses, I can't do that either, for some reason I can't read the cards as well. I probably would wear them if I could, but I've tried it and don't like it.

I've never worn sunglasses in a casino but have in a home game once (as a goof specifically to tilt a friend). I wear a hoodie to the casino 80%+ of the time. It's comfortable and poker rooms are always on the cold side. Even in the summer I'll wear shorts and a light weight hoodie. (I don't actually put the hood part up at the table). I bring headphones to the casino 100% of the time and always put them in at some point. I like the sounds of the room and the table talk but it eventually gets to be too much and I need a 20-30 minute music break.
