So generally someone posts a god awful, hilarious sale, or someone finds a good deal they aren't interested in and that person is swarmed by offers.

What about a tertiary use? I just started looking at SBs, and goodness if eBay isn't full of em.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Paulson-St...a=1&pg=2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Paulson-St...t=0&noa=1&pg=5411&_trksid=p5411.c100167.m2940

These were just the first two examples, and obviously pricing will increase, but if a PCFer posts here saying, hey I'm interested and bidding on this particular item or that, wouldn't we all save money in the long wrong by not competing with eachother? Or is that seen as toeing the moral line, perhaps going beyond it. I get when there is something particular that people are looking for, bidders gon bid. But if it's the same old usual SBs and other common occurrences, I feel like this would make sense and save folks some money? Maybe on occasion?

I think technically that type of activity is actually against eBay ToS..at the very least frowned upon heavily.

As far as how this forum is used in that manner I don't think it's typically been used in that manner. Maybe on occasion.

Ya, sorry. And I’m sure they’ll go up again, but wouldn’t it be helpful if I knew you were the high bidder? (Unless that’s eBay illega. If it’s just frowned upon, then I don’t mind)

We could discuss who needs what and make it happen. I’m also not into chips strictly to make money, so I don’t mind letting others know about them if they need them more or making the ones I don’t need available at cost after.

I think I'd be concerned folks are about to commit a crime: https://www.justice.gov/atr/price-fixing-bid-rigging-and-market-allocation-schemes & https://mikebrandlyauctioneer.wordpress.com/2010/05/14/what-is-collusion-at-an-auction/

I might be at fault for misusing this. To be clear this is intended for good deals and cool items only? I’ll stop with the funny or out of the ordinary stuff.

Haha oh no, not what I meant at all. I love the funny and out of ordinary, was only wondering about the whys or whys not to post something you were currently bidding on!

I don't think anyone is going to be arrested because a rack of starbursts sold for $105 instead of $115 :)

I will say that I have been purchasing all of the Matsui Lighthouse casino chips that have been selling a rack at a time on eBay. There has been some competition from other bidders, but several PCFers who knew I was going for them decided to not bother bidding.

In general, I think eBay is will the Wild West, even for members here. I think eBay, because of its structure, is different than other sites. If someone finds a deal on Craigslist it would seem to go against the community here to try to contact the seller and offer a higher price or something like that. On eBay I think anything is acceptable (though there are times where a large lot will be for sale -- like Grey Grouse or something like that a while back, though I'm not certain it ended the way people thought it would -- where going in as a group and having one bidder can result in everyone winning in the end).

Hmmm that’s interesting. Feel like most of that is speaking to something beyond a rack of starburst on eBay. I guess I account this to me and a couple of buddies at an auction; I’m obviously not going to try and outbid my patriots fan friend for a Brady jersey even if I kind of want it.

We are a tiny corner of the internet with plenty of bidders out there to still get fair market pricing for an auction, I just thought it might be cool to post here and see what’s what. If someone needs one to finish a rack, or it’s the last part of a set, I’ll back off. Prolly only saving em 5-10 bucks, but importantly they’re getting it.

tl;dr: I think it is asking too much of people here (both members and lurkers) to respect any kind of eBay "dibs".
I totally get that. But it seems I do keep running into PCF related issues elsewhere.

Was just in talks with a guy regarding his leftover Starbursts. He was very hesitant, and rightfully so, as a previous PCFer had already reached out for the same reason and tried to bamboozle/low ball the crap out of him. I was trying to explain that I would pay more than what most of his auctions were going for and it sucks someone tried to take him for a ride.

So maybe not dibs so much, but if someone is going to reach out or do work, I wish they didn’t do it poorly enough to ruin what could be for others.

This is what happened with the Aransas Queen situation. An eBay listing for a set got posted here and people realized the seller had the full lot of the casinos chips. At that point it made sense to group up and make him a single offer. But everyone was tripping over themselves trying to bargain with the seller. The seller got an inflated sense of the general market for the chips and it made it a nightmare for anyone to make a deal with the guy.

He may have already been that way (it was that bad) but I’m sure all the offers made it that much worse. @uclaure? :D

I guess that’s my point. It’s a free market and everyone can do what they want and all that jazz I’m not getting back into it, just thought I’d leave an update that our Starburst eBay man was completely turned off from any private or forum sale based on dealing with a known PCFer. Sucks for me, sucks for everyone I would’ve sold to at cost. Moving on.

I was trying to buy some nice chairs from a guy that owned a cardroom that shut down not too long ago. Bs’d with the guy for a while. We hit it off and turned out he has always been a fan of Paulsons. Chairs were about 7 hours away from me and he randomly offered to deliver them directly to me as he was heading this direction (still an hour and a half one way further than his destination). Posted about the deal and someone here did some detective work and tried to get him to deliver the complete opposite direction. Pissed the guy off. Needless to say I don’t have any fancy chairs now. Granted I’m still working on salvaging the deal but it was frustrating.

I’m not continuing to talk just to talk, but honestly if I have to bid against a PCF flipper, and we bid it up so they can end up making $20, maybe we can just start a finders fee. When they find something I want, I’ll just pay them $20 from the start to not bid on something they don’t even want/need. :wow:

That sucks really sorry to hear. Unfortunately you can’t post anything until you have them in hand or BS like this happens.

Probably just better to keep a deal mum until it’s done, sounds like. Assume that your friend will try to snake your date.

Agree with this. If there's a lot you want to split 50/50 and you post it here, there's no guarantee someone will agree with you. You might find someone to split it, but it's more likely that someone else is going to snag it. You have to buy the whole lot and sell what you don't want.

Really the only reason to post it here is if you don't want it.

^^ Sad but true. Too many fuck-your-neighbor types only in it for the money these days, unfortunately.
Can’t agree enough with this statement. Lots more people around this place now that are only into chips for the profit margin. Of course there have always been a few profit driven chippers but seems to be a lot more as the forum has grown in popularity (just the way things are).

Always said that you should never post about a deal on here until deal is done and you have the chips in hand. Otherwise the snipers will jump at the chance.
