No surprise here, especially with Sheldon passing away recently. Has probably been in the works for awhile.

I’m assuming they’ll probably try to rebrand the Venetian? Though the name is prominent and has a lot of clout. Hope it doesn’t affect their poker too much, the Venetian Deep Stacks series are some of my favorites.

Edit - per the AP News release:
The name of the Venetian, the expo center as well as the Palazzo, the Sands’ luxury casino and resort that is part of the same complex, will remain, and the company’s headquarters will stay in Las Vegas.

If the name remains then I would imagine that the chips will remain the same too. Correct me if I am wrong on that.

If they do change out the chip rack, then Nevada law requires the chips to be destroyed.

Pay attention the next time a Nevada chip rack gets changed out for what ever reason. You will notice that in the weeks before the last redemption date all the fractionals and $1's will disappear. By that date the only chips that actually get destroyed are the denominations that are > $1. I'm not really sure what would happen with the $2's at the Venetian, but they might disappear too. I wouldn't be buying them, but some people probably would. $5's are a bit expensive, but some of those will walk out the door too.

While the theme & name won't be changing, I'd bet they will change out the chips. That way they get to keep the difference between what is in the cage and redemptions vs their reserves. One of the first things Phil Ruffin did when he bought Circus Circus is change out the chips, even though the brand remained the same.

The Venetian has maintained a nice poker room, runs good tournaments and seems to actually value poker players. I hope the new management at least maintains this level or possibly improves upon it.

Several rooms disappeared from the strip last year. I'd hate to see poker take another hit there.

Was going to be hard to rebrand, what do you do with the canal going through the building. Guess you could make it an Amsterdam theme and have a headshot and a red light district for a full Vegas experience. :wow:
