Newish chipper here, just found this glorious haven late last year. Made positive headway by picking up a tourney set from of CPS chips, and picked up a ton of the 8V China Clay blanks which I'm still working on getting labeled.

All of this is to say that I'm still learning and probably need to start buying up samples to build an idea of what's what, but in the mean time I'd love to get a good cash set before moving overseas to Europe. I've searched pretty far back in the For Sale, and only really coming up with more tourney sets I want.

I don't have an extremely narrow budget, the CPS set was fun and well worth the 400. It'd be nice to stay near that, but I have no issue going up towards 6-700 for a solid set I'll enjoy while still building my chip knowledge. While I am looking for solid chips, being a newish chipper means the cool/wow factor is also still a factor, so aesthetics play. Having talked with quite a few people on here, I know chippers always have chips sitting in the wings and eyes on a new prize, so figured I'd post and see what people may want to get rid of. And just in case someone points it out, I did see navels Matsui Cash Set Auction, (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/super-sexy-radisson-matsui-cash-set.42167/#post-784412), but I'm really hoping for him that it takes off and exceeds his original posting of $950.

Hope this isn't too generic of a want listing! I love this community but did want to mention that any pricier sets I'm unfamiliar with, messaged by people I haven't seen, I'll have to double check with people who have helped me along the way. Would hate to be suckered by the one person in all of PCF trying to take someone for a ride. Thanks!

Define “large cash set?” How many chips? What kind of breakdown? If you aren’t sure, how many players are you looking to support at what stakes?

The only real requirement is that it'd be nice to have 25c pieces. While the cash set wouldn't need a heavy presence of 25-500s, I feel like most standard breakdowns work. I'd like to be somewhere in the 1000 chip range, as this will be my cash set for a bit, just don't want to get stuck having to add on. Would much, much, much rather have too much than too little, so paying for 2k plus chips wouldn't be out of my comfort zone.

The reasoning for the generic large set description, is that in moving overseas (Denmark) I don't know what kind of games I'll encounter if any. It's easier to get games together when someone already has hosting taken care of, so I'll just be walking the streets begging for people to join my game.

There are few chips more expensive than vintage quarters. Not that I don't love my quarters, but I would hate to pay to replace them - - - If I could. Perhaps a relabel candidate would be more economical.

"large" cash set means something different depending who you are asking. Once-upon-a-time I would have said 700 chips made a large set. Now I think 1,000 is a nice set.

The break down matters. The high denomination chips can be quite expensive and hard to find in quantity.

You will be doing well to buy now and move the chips yourself. Overseas shipping is not cheap.

Good luck with the hunt -=- DrStrange

I'd keep an eye on it if I were you, I suspect it is going to end up being a bargain :)
It's kind of nice being younger and new to all of this, because I really enjoy some of the cheaper ChipCo and full image chips, but even I know how awesome it would be to get ahold of these for my first cash set! If I do happen to pick it up at a bargain, take heart in knowing that if/when I do ever move on from them, I'll definitely be on the lookout for another me starting out to get them to.
The CPS group buy chips were my first purchase and I fricken love them so much, but I can't wait for the day I get them to another new chipper.

Definitely want to get them while still here, that's why I forwent looking for sets myself and just created a post. Leaving in two months, so ideally I'd love to get them and host here before then. I can't imagine shipping something like Saoliver's 4k chips from Washingto to Europe.

Back on my bandwagon, advocating for the old arithmetic trick:

With 200 x $1, 300 x $5, 200 x $25, and 100 x $100 -- 800 chips total, with or without any currency character -- you can handle any single-table cash game in any currency, from .05/.10 to an unlimited upper end just by multiplying by a constant at buy-in and dividing by the same constant at cash-out.

Enjoy Denmark!

I have a large set of Royal Yak cash chips with denominations from 5c to $20. If ceramics are of interest to you then let me know!

I actually just missed being able to grab TxGoodfella's set of Yaks. I'll definitely send you a message, but where did these come from, I keep seeing them. Looks like a group buy off of chip talk back in the day? Looks like if for some reason I ever wanted to add on to this there are definitely a bit out there, yeah?

I did have a couple of questions, as this is the first auction I've participated in.
Is it rude for me to wait until close to the end to bid? As in I know that I'm going to bid, do I just need to put it in now (even if I was the last bidder when it was at 450, I planned on raising a substantial amount since that seemed low)?
Or is it acceptable for people to be continually bidding at the end, in turn extending the closing time?

Just wondering if there was a rule of thumb so I'm not "that guy".

If you bid within the rules you are fine. We commonly have guys bidding at the end of the auction extending it past its closing time.
yep, it's all good. just don't wait past the five minute rule (i.e., 5 minutes after the previous bid) :)

the main thing about auctions is that if you win you are expected to honor your bid.

Like I mentioned I'm not quite sure how these things go, but I plan on winning. <-- great (dumb) comment by someone who still doesn't understand what chips are worth what.
If nothing else, I got to learn what a snapper is and about occidental grand arubas.

I think I paid ~$1100 for the set (not including the relabeling job). I really doubt it will go that high.

Ahhh jesus. Well I can keep your information and if I ever decide to put them up for adoption, I can offer you first rights at price I end up with them at.

I'm not gonna lie, it would be pretty cool to get priced out of this and see them jump up that high though. One way or another, one of us will be really happy!

One of the last casino orders from Chipco ($5 thru $1000 chips). PGI acquired them with other Chipco assets, and created the fractional, $1, $20, and $5000 chips. Last year, GOCC created some as well.

A simple set you could put together almost right away that should be pretty inexpensive would be the Roadhouse Chips mentioned above.
300 x $1
300 x $5
200 x $25

You could add 2 racks of solid colour Paulsons (like generic roulette hot stamps) as a non-denom frac. I happen to know someone who has this type of chip available for cheap.... ;)

I almost wish I hadn't read this.... This has been echoing in my mind since yesterday. For some reason a small microcash set seems like a fun idea (nothing too fancy). Part of the reason I talk myself out of it is the lack of versatility. I may need to find a new excuse....
