Hello all,

I am working on a cash set inlay replacement project. I think I have my chips figured out. As always, I will be using @Gear to produce the labels.

I've used matte on my large tournament set (which I love), smooth on some Casino denom replacements/additions, but am thinking of textured labels for this project.

I am looking for feedback from those who have done textured labels on RHC chips and if they would recommend doing it.

Any other feedback from those who have done it is also appreciated.

Thanks,
Grant

I am not an RHC fan, but if I were to relabel some RHC's, I would definitely not use textured labels since textured inlays were not used on RHC.

If you are relabelling every single denom, then I guess an argument can be made for doing so, but....

I'm going back and forth on this this as well, although not for RCH specifically. The matte are my favorite so far, but the feel of the textured labels is nice. One thing I've noticed is that the textured labels don't photograph very well. Not sure if that matters to you, but it's something to consider.

I certainly prefer the feel of textured labels. I assume you know this, but you can only use laminated stickers if you remove the inlay.
Yes, I've got over 2k relabels under my belt so far, so good on that front.

Agree, the feel of textured labels is great. I wonder if they pick up more dirt?

I have RHC chips with textured inlays. While there aren't a lot out there, they do exist.

Hmmm... interesting point. I've never noticed that before.

Thanks,

I never knew. Which RHC are textured?
Out of a stack of 26 random RHCs, these 4 are textured:

I did textured for my custom THCs to match the existing CDI98 inlays. I like them. I don't see why they shouldn't be used on RHCs.

What will be the final label size? 1", 1 1/16", 1 1/8"?

Ummmm.. standard RHC size. I don't know the exact size as @Gear handles making sure it fits correctly.

Well thanks for the education everybody. I have just checked my vast selection of RHC chips to verify that I am merely ignorant and not crazy, and I do not own a single example of a textured RHC. Part of my problem is avoiding RHC, resulting in a limited experience (less that 20 examples).

I guess it could work in that case. Vote changed.

I think it boils down to what is the theme of the set. If it is a throwback set, the textured look may be best. A more modern theme would look best with glossy. Matte can easily go either way.

PCA $1 are textured.

if you are going through the work of removing the existing inlay, to do anything but texture laminated labels seems like a waste of all that work.

I've done textured on my THC relabel. Very happy with it, and in general prefer that by a lot. If you do semicustom or something where you have some original chips in the mix, I would match to the inlay of the original. If it's full custom across all denoms I would go textured for sure.

We were going back and forth between Textured / Smooth Laminate, but deferred to the latter per @Gear recommendation. It has been a decent amount of work! Just waiting for the labels, very excited.

And @Rhodeman77 your sets are beauty.

I am thinking of leaving one denom as original and unfortunately it has a smooth laminate. I already have samples of my inlay with the textured inlay which is soooooooo much better than smooth. Even though I'll have 1 denom that is different I am still thinking I'll go with the textured. Yes, they are that much better.

I will concede that the smooth laminate allows the vinyl to be seen just a bit more crisply.

I SO wanted to do textured labels on my milled HSI fracs (which are THC)...even though the rest of the HSI set is smooth RHC. I figured the feel was more important than consistency, but I ran a poll to see the community's feelings...
20 to 1 in favor of smooth, for consistency with the other chips.
I went with smooth, but I think I'll always wonder....what if?

Hmm
Well I'll not sure I'm willing to sacrifice making 4 different denominations much worse (smooth) just to have all the denominations the same. Odk, maybe I'll have to murder all 5.

Honestly, to me the difference is sort of like running your hand over a freshly cut piece of wood vs running your hand over that same piece of wood after it has been nicely sanded.

There's always the advice to do what you want because they're YOUR chips, make yourself happy, and the hell what anyone else thinks!
