Hey Y'all,

Been playing low stakes home games poker since high school and still get together and play with a few high school buddies every now and then. Hoping to be able to play more often with them after retirement in a couple of years.

Came across PCF when I was looking into alternative poker chip transport solutions (e.g. Pelican and Pelican type cases) and after a little lurking, I just signed up the other day.

Not sure how active I'll be (me being here is like a Lada/Yugo owner attending a Ferrari convention - my chips are basically $20-30 sets from OfferUp) but just saying what's up. Someday, I hope to be able to buy some decent chips AND have money left over to play with them... haha

Welcome!

What transport solution did you decide on? People here seem to like the Apache cases if you're looking for suggestions.

I use Nanuk910 myself you can store 400-800 chip comfortably

Thanks for the welcome fellas!

@LeLe – I hear you! Unfortunately, as low end as my chips are, they’re still better than my game… smh… Btw, I like that case setup you have, very tidy and sharp! J

@Radicus – will attach some pics at the end, would appreciate any thoughts/constructive criticisms, thanks. LOL @ FightClub & application process!

@WhiteMamba – thanks for the invite! Please allow me to humbly take a rain check! I worked at a Honda/Kawasaki dealership for a few years back in the early 1990’s (I was riding a pretty modded 87 VFR at the time). Customers and co-workers would always invite me to ride their bikes (which were almost all newer, nicer, and faster than mine) and I never took them up on it. I knew that if I had ridden their bikes, especially the newer/newest VFR’s, I would never want to get back on mine again… ;)

@Josh – Copy that Sir, can I apply for both groups or do I have to pick one? :D

@Phish – Thanks Phish!

@warma – lol

@allforcharity – Thanks AFC!

@utgtrash – Thanks UTG!

After I saw a bunch of your guys’ hard case setups, I went out and bought a bunch of cases, mostly used (and a couple of new Apaches from Harbor Freight).

Most of my cheapo chips are in their original cases but this is what we’ve been playing with recently when I’m hosting: 800 mixed cheapos in a Casematix case (with Apache chip racks)(the orange and white chips are for declaring hi/lo/sweep or for keeping track of legs earned). The Casematix is the cheapest/flimsiest case I have and I wanted it to be the guinea pig for everything else later. I haven’t decided if I’ll be keeping these exact chips in this case. (btw, the extra two pieces of foam are just to provide a little more padding when upright)

Here is a Pelican 1095 that I was considering making into a chip case. Holds basically one level of racks (Apache shown) but “only” 500 chips. I also have a 1085 Pelican too but one thing I’m not crazy about both the 1085 and 1095 is that neither has a handle (shoulder strap only).

Here is a Pelican 1490 but I haven’t gotten foam for it yet. I have a 1470 also but haven’t decided whether or not I want to use that for chips either.

Here is a Ridgid tool box (IIRC 22”) and a full set of Kaizen foam (lid, middle, and bottom) that I ordered for it. I believe it will hold two levels of racks (Apache shown) comfortably but I’m thinking about only keeping one level (600 cheapos) in the very bottom and then cutting the middle layer of foam to hold cards and buttons and stuff.

I had purchased an Apache 4800 and a handful of Seahorse 710 and 720 cases as well (yeah, I’m stupid like that) but ended up feeling that they were just a little too big/bulky for our 1 table home games nowadays. (Back in high school, we sometimes ran 3 full tables but those days are long gone, lol)

So I ended up buying an Apache 3800 and am tossing around the idea of storing chips in it in tubes. Each of these tubes hold 25 40mm chips (41mm are too big) and I mocked up how I might lay it out with a cardboard grid frame. This would hold 700 chips and have room for cards and some accessories. I bought a couple of sheets of 1/8” high density polyethylene and am planning on using that to replace the cardboard pieces at some point. Dunno which of my cheapos sets I would store in this… Oh btw, all the tubes comfortably fit in this little go bag as well, with room for cards and accessories too…

We are one tribe. But when the battles start, I'll light the beacons upon the ridge. You will know what to do. First case of shitty beer is on me. Face paint color for the next theme is "Electric Lime".

Probably not a good idea but I'm gonna check that now, thanks! :D
It wasn't a good idea, now I want Nanuk cases too! Doh! SMH! :wow:

That a lot of cases :eek: do you need so many ?
LOL that's what my wife just said a little bit ago when she caught me looking at the Nanuk case thread and saw a group of cases lying around in my office. What's sad is that even though all my chips are cheapos, I still have more cases than I have chips! I guess the only good thing is that all the non-chip cases can easily be used for other stuff... ;)

I'm on it!
