If I were you, I would definitely NEVER order a custom compression clay set.
I don't think it would be a pleasant process for you, or the manufacturer.
Not a slam by any means, just doesn't seem to be a good fit.
I have a set of over 2000 from back in the ASM days and adore it.

The issues I mentioned never would have been accepted in the old days. I get that we are down to one manufacturer and I am fully aware of the challenges they face. It’s hard to make consistent clay chips, but that doesn’t mean that everything they put out is above reproach. Their chips aren’t cheap. Premium price should equal premium quality and it just doesn’t seem to be the case.

I totally admit that I’m spoiled in that I remember how good the product that ASM put out was. These are on the level that BCC would have been crucified for, but because CPC is the only manufacturer left, they get a free pass? I don’t think that’s right. Look at the Paulson chips that Eloe2000 posted - consistent spots that are in line with each other, there is some variance, but it is definitely similar and what is acceptable for a clay chip. I’m telling you - go back into the archives and look at the ASM chips. They used to be of the same quality. CPC just doesn’t have it dialled in yet, and for the thousands of dollars of cost, there is no chance I’d roll the dice.

For the record, I think the concept is great, and I love the thought and sentimentality that went into the design. It makes it even worse that CPC put out such a substandard product.

Just for what it’s worth, this is a member’s thread that they put out here to share their excitement about their awesome creation and intimate background on their game which sounds fantastic. It’s not really the best place to lean hard into your own personal animus and criticisms on the manufacturer and their chips. There is a time and a place, both of which you have missed.

This is a fantastic set with a great story and wonderful creativity and I am grateful for him sharing (especially because of my love for AC $1s!).

I'm not arguing anything about quality control or consistency.
I was just remarking that with today's options, you probably shouldn't ever pull the trigger (and from your reply it sounds like you won't.)

That’s one point of view and I considered it, but I didn’t criticize the design or inlays.

I offered an assessment on the quality of the product they received. If I was them, I’d be livid at the what was received and would hope that the community would provide support as to the lack of QC on that product.

If you guys think these are of an acceptable standard - peace. You do you. I’ve seen countless chips over the last twenty years and IMO these are not to an acceptable standard. If i was a new member and I got something new that I paid thousands of dollars for, I’d much rather the community point out any issues than just BS and say they are great.

Concept - awesome
Inlays - awesome
Design - awesome
Quality of product - not awesome

You miss the point. This isn’t a review thread for you to opine on your acceptance on the quality of the chips. There are other threads for your reviews.

What a thoughtful set and a beautiful tribute to your friends. They’ll give you shit for it for sure, but they’re lucky to have you. Nicely done.

I keep coming back to this thread. Love it. Love that Wade is the workhorse. Love each person gets a different colour which also might have a personal meaning for some. Love the group shot. Love the cartoon art. Really well executed.

I’m still new here, but I have been poking around the forum looking at customs, and I think this is the most personalised set on PCF, which is, to me, the whole point of customs.

I love the concept of the chips, and the inlay is awesome, but man those spots would tilt the shit out of me.

It's nice that they've figured out how to eliminate the split spots on the tri-moons, but they are way too inconsistent on the face of the chip. It looks like a kid made them.

The 1/8" spots are off center and some are blobs vs spots.

Stack heights look to be off by up to a chip too.

Sorry OP, but I'd be next level pissed if I spent all that money and this is what I received.
I don't really get the extreme response. There are definitely some blob spots, but very, very few proportionally imo. And if you check these 1/8" spots against the first round of 1/8" spot chips that were run when ASM first offered them, I think these are significantly better, with regard to both consistency of spot and with regard to depth of spot on the face of the chip.

To be honest, I was pretty nervous about opening the boxes when I took delivery. There have been some split spot issues I've seen in the last year or so. There have been some otherwise messy spots here and there. So I was sort of steeled against potential slight disappointment on the QA front.

But I was truly elated when I unboxed everything. Yes, there are a few splits (and upon playing with them this evening with my group, I'll revise my "fewer than 10" 418 splits number above to probably 20-25, but still ZERO tri-moon splits) and yes there are a few messy spots, but look at the number of chips here and then look at the number of chips affected. It's nothing close to an objectionable level.

Don't want to be overly defensive because it's not really my product to defend, but as someone who paid used Corolla money for a set of chips, if I were dissatisfied I'd have been more than willing to complain until it was made right or come onto this same board and make a big stink. Instead I'm thrilled with the results and consider them as high quality as anything I've ever seen produced during any era of ASM or CPC production and encourage anyone who is considering putting in an order to do so. These exceeded my expectations in every way.

I thought I’d have some racks that fit these chips among the various racks I have around the house, but nope. Ended up just ordering some cheapo, thin, import racks to use for now, but would love to find something of better quality.

I’ve read all the “what rack for scrowns” threads, so I guess there really is no answer other than waiting for these chips to be worn down through play enough to fit in the Key West racks.

Maybe I’ll just order some wooden racks from Alec…
