Working on my chip creation. I believe I have finalized the edge spots and colors, but welcome feedback.

I am going to start working on the inlay design. What is the best way to do this?

Cash game, I'm assuming? I figured they were a tournament set since they all share the same spots.

I like the individual chips, but they share too many spot colors. I'd like to see the blue spots change on the first chip and the orange spots on the second. I think it will work better in a splash pot.

i think imperial blue is the only color repeated in the set, but i still agree that the overall effect of the colors and all-one-spot design makes me think they would blend.

agree with slisk - change up the imp blue spot on the white chip. depending on what you sub in place of the imp blue spot, the orange spot on the imp blue chip might be able to stay.

Not really a fan of same spot combo for cash game chips, and the 412 makes these look pretty busy imo. If sticking with it, maybe make the horizontal or vertical spots a family match to base color. White/charcoal, imperial blue/light blue, etc.

agree in general, but i do recall commerce's tournament chips being all 4A12 and looking pretty sick. quick google image search didn't reveal pic right away and don't have time to look further now, but will check back in if i see them. i remember trying to mock them up with CPC colors at some point and getting fairly close.

Thanks for the advice. I was messing around with chip 2 and didn't realize I had imperial blue in chip 1. I will definitely change chip 1's edge spot color to something unique.

I went with uniform edge spots because there is something very nice about consistency/uniformity, but I will try some other combos so they "build" from the smallest denomination the largest. I somewhat feel casinos do different edge spots for color blind people and cameras/security versus asthetics. However, I appreciate the suggestions and will experiment!

Thanks, Yoda. Oh look, on every chip except the 25K flag version, a family color spot close to the base color. ;)

in all seriousness, i think the reason i ended up not going any further with the CPC mock ups of the commerce chips was that the 500 and 1k spots were identical and i didn't care for that. otherwise, love the colors and for the most part, it works having a single spot pattern in the set (save for the secondary 25k obv).

4A12 chips from ASM look a lot different than Paulson's corresponding P spots, imo. A lot more of the base chip color shines through with the Paulsons, which makes it 'okay' for repeated use. The wider CPC spots make it too busy for the same set treatment. Looks okay for one chip, but not a bunch -- plus you have to be careful that unique color hues are used on each chip to reduce stack confusion (works best when each chip has same-family color hues, like an all blue hues chip, all greens, all yellows, all oranges, all grays, etc. -- otherwise the pots look like a rainbow on acid).

spot designer ninja ITT. love those.

EDIT: although maybe sub for the white spot on the red chip? grey? black?

been lol-ing at your Yoda meme.

Yeah, I originally had black spot instead of bright white on the red chip. Then move the bright white to the green chip prolly. Lots of options.

slight changes from courage's proposal and moving to 4A14 rather than 4A12. i think dave is right re: the width of CPC 1/2" spots making a difference.

personally, i'd switch the white and blue chips, but i'm assuming OP had settled on a white->blue->red->green progression and i think they're fine either way.

Worked these up also and added a hundo. All 4A14 may be better as Jack said...

I definitely prefer the in-family spots.

The original color variety was too great, and made the "base" color unobvious, depending on how the chips were rotated in a stack. For example, in the original:

I could totally look at this stack and not be sure whether they're greens or yellows. I'd figure it out, but why make me work?

The latest version is definitely green, despite just as a bad a "yellow spot" setup in the stack:

not a big deal since there's not a yellow chip in the set to confuse it with imo.

Thanks for the great advice. I see your point about 412. I didn't realize how hard it can be from the side to 100% know if it is a different color chip. Moving to the 414 would definitely help. Definitely good food for thought. Will hit the editor tonight!

You're right, it's not a big deal if you already have a set in that situation... but if designing a set, then it's the kind of thing I'd want to design around. People generally appreciate good design, whether or not they realize what makes it good - and good designers think about how these details are received by the audience. That's how they end up with great designs.

Also, who know - maybe Messiah will want an add-on in the future, and maybe want to be able to do a yellow!

Was about to post "Much better!" then realized it was by courage so it's just "meh". Seriously dude, you do this shit in your sleep, don't ya... :)

I am taking all of the suggestions and continuing to work on my chips. I am still messing with the colors (getting close to asking for opinions), but I feel I have come up with a good progression/theme for my edge spots. I would love to get your thoughts on the below edge spot progression examples I came up with. They are all relatively similar, but with slight differences in each with some just having a different progression order.

I would definitely use different colors for the different denominations... having only black chips might get a bit confusing ;).

What you're doing in terms of progression is a very logical one, but not a very practical one. I'd use vastly different edgespot designs instead of making them a little more complex by adding an extra 1/8" or 1/4" spot.

The edgespots help colorblind people differentiate the chips in the pot and in stacks, having very similar edgespot designs defeats their purpose somewhat.

lol! I will change the colors...hehe. I kept the colors the same for this so it didn't distract from what I was looking at, edge spots. This way the edge spots were the only thing different.

These chips are just for my home game so I am lucky that no one is color blind. I agree that in commercial use you need to be more careful, but for this set I am really just going for most visually appealing.

I am open to making my edge spots more diverse if you have suggestions based on what I did above. This is a work in progress, but I think it's already 10x better than my initial attempt due to feedback so the more the merrier!
