Hi all- my friend found this poker chip while scuba diving in the Colorado River. He saw an episode of Pawn Stars where the same chip was quoted as being worth around 6-7k... his obviously is not in that great of shape due to being found underwater.. any thoughts or idea about the history? Apparently there is only 8 or so known in existence.. so—— what do you guys think? Here’s a link to another forum that discusses the pawn stars episode

It's not worthless. To the right collector, that will be a great find. Your friend can probably make a few bucks. That's a rare mold in its own right. Condition is what's gonna drive the price down.

I'd love to know the story of how a $25 chip ended up at the bottom of the Colorado River.

....because the body and the pocket it was in disappeared long ago?

It’s weird that there is no record of a 25$ chip from the casino in that mold. Obviously 25 dollars was a lot of money back then, I just don’t even know how to “authenticate” something that doesn’t even have a record of ever existing?

Chip rack has a $25 Las Vegas Club purple chip w/ 3 cream insert. White inlay black color denomination yellow blue black picture of a bandit on a rectangle heart mold circa 1955
Value listed as Z5 in average condition.

A common way of "destroying" old chips in casinos was to dump them into a body of water. For instance, there are a lot of Kings Castle chips at the bottom of Lake Tahoe somewhere. This chip may have come from a bunch of chips dumped similarly.

Chips are usually only worth anything around here if you have another 99 of 'em (or more). For singles, you're better off asking about chip value and history at the Chip Board:

I don’t think people can join still? I tried the email someone suggested of the last admin and no response. Also @Twointwoout be ready to see some 2005 website layouts and formats.

Afaik, the site is still actively owned/operated by David Spragg.

Ya, this is that chip. A Z5* value is $800+ in the chip rack which starts at Z1 and goes up to Z9. So theoretically, this chip could be worth a couple thousand if it were in excellent condition. But in its current state, who knows. Maybe a couple hundred to a few hundred? I'd head over to the chipboard if I were you. That's more the market for stuff like this. We're mostly poker set and sample set collectors here.
